$12M Texas Lottery jackpot set to expire Monday

Texas LotteryTexas Lottery: $12M Texas Lottery jackpot set to expire Monday

Rating:

According to the Texas Lottery Commission, there could be a multi-millionaire in the League City-area sitting on a winning lotto ticket from January 1.

A ticket matching all six numbers drawn was purchased that day from the South Shore Shell gas station in the 3300 block of FM 518 in League City. The jackpot was $12 million.

The ticket was a Quick Pick that had the cash value option.

But that prize money could soon be gone with the wind, according to lottery brass, who say that the last day to claim the loot is Monday, June 30.

Winners only have so long to claim their lottto prizes before it reverts back to the state.

Per Texas Lottery Commsion rules, a ticket holder forfeits any claim to a prize for a draw game after 180 days have passed following the drawing, unless they are otherwise disposed of because military duty.

The convenience store was awarded a check for $121,385.34 on March 6 for selling the winning ticket.

"We encourage our players to take another look at their ticket, check the numbers again and if your numbers match, sign the back of the ticket and contact us," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, in a press release.

The lottery says that since 1995, there has been $837 million in unclaimed Texas Lottery prizes reverted back to the state.

So, if you're in the League City area or traveled through there on New Year's Day and haven't checked your ticket yet, the numbers were 15, 17, 43, 45, 47 and 50.

I hope the ticket buyer comes forward in time. This is enough bread to retire on.

It's a futile effort.

I find it so disheartening when these type of stories appear because even after taxes are deducted the winnings are still life changing to 99% of the people who play.

The really sad thing, is that they do not put that money, back into the prize pool.

Looks like it will be $849 millions after Monday. Disapprove

It was a cash value tic worth about 7.90 million. The 12 million was the annuity amount.

Still enough to retire on for me. Unfortunately, I have never ever been in League City, never mind bought a lotto tic there.

You'll have plenty of chances in the future to buy a ticket worth as much or more, for example you could buy a winning MM ticket tonight.

                  I got my MM tic.

I really hope it's the "right" tic!

I have to wait until after 7:30 PM tonight to buy mines in order to take advantage of the buy 2 get 1 free promotion that Ohio has.

Last Tuesday there were storms in my area and the terminals were down where I usually buy my tickets so I went else where.  When I cashed in my 2 free tickets the clerk asked if I knew what they were worth before running them, I think she was trying to get an idea if I knew about the promotion before maybe trying to cheat me out of my free tickets.  Years ago with a similar promotion a clerk tried to convince me that the free tickets were for the clerks.  With this promotion only running during the last four hours before the drawings, I wonder how many customers are not collecting their free tickets.

Well I bought that winning ticket and threw it away because Texas took too long to update their website. Yeah...yeah. That'll be my story. Now where's the number for the lawyer greedy enough to take this case.

If the  $12 M is not claimed ,why would a lottery official say ," prize money could soon be gone with the wind" when they know it will revert  back to the state?

Never thought that The State can actually be "the winner" of a big Jackpot, but indeed they are!

The choice of words were poor and implies that the state will "blow it away" on a "worthwhile cause".

Yup, it will be gone with the wind for the winner, who fails to claim it in time.

Frustrating to read stories about expiring jackpots but that is a fact of life for us lottery players.

Only 6 months to claim a jackpot in TX? Thought the time limit  was a year?  Is the 6 month limit applicable to the Power Ball and Mega Millions,as well  in TX ? Hope other states don't adopt this short time frame!

                          Cussing Face   What?
