A popular new lottery game format is now finding its way to North Carolina.

Starting September 7, North Carolina lottery players will be able to buy tickets for the latest North Carolina Lottery game called All or Nothing.

In the new game, players choose 12 numbers from a total pool of 24 numbers, and they can win the top prize by matching either all or none of the 12 numbers drawn to the numbers on their game ticket.

The top prize is $250,000.

All or Nothing is the North Carolina Lottery's first new numbers game in more than four years.

Lottery officials announced Monday the twice-daily "All or Nothing" game begins Sept. 7 and tickets will cost $2 each. Drawings will be held at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Players pick 12 numbers, 1 through 24. There's a $250,000 top prize if all or none of the 12 numbers match those drawn. Four lower prize amounts are possible for other combinations.

North Carolina is not the first state to implement the 'All or Nothing' game format, which has gained popularity recently in several other states.  Currently, the states of Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Texas, as well as the country of Ireland, have started All or Nothing games.  (It is called Hit or Miss in Illinois.)

Among the other All or Nothing states, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas and Illinois have implemented the game with four daily drawings.

Lottery Executive Director Alice Garland says the draw game will help the lottery meet its new goal of raising $520 million for education.

There are 10 ways to win:

  • Match four or eight numbers for $2 (1 in 5.5 odds)
  • Match three or nine numbers for $10 (1 in 28 odds)
  • Match two or 10 numbers for $50 (1 in 310.5 odds)
  • Match one or 11 numbers for $500 (1 in 9,390 odds)
  • Match zero or 12 numbers for $250,000 (1 in 1.35 million odds)

This is the sixth draw game for the North Carolina lottery. There's the daily Carolina Pick 3, Pick 4 and Cash 5, and the twice-weekly multi-state Mega Millions and Powerball.

I used to love this kind of game but I found out real quick, that it is not as easy as it sounds.

This does not sound exciting at all, except for the 2.00 cost to play.

Finally! I was wondering if we were ever going to get a new draw game.  Sounds easy though which I know can't be the case. I'm excited about the new game.

Sounds interesting...I'll try it at least once just to see what happens!

You will find the most common result is to get 5,6, or 7 numbers. LOL.

I play this game every day, and one thing I do like about it is the overall odds are better than any other game, and the fixed prize also.

I won $250 last month playing the same numbers 5 times. But, I lost $10 this morning playing the same way. No, I don't drop $10 every day. Usually I'll play 2 lines with the same numbers (or opposite) to try for $500k.

Overall, you can probably expect to win 25% to 50% of what you spend, although I came out ahead $168 last month.

Good luck if you play it.

This is the 2nd time I heard a player say " play 2 lines with the (opposite numbers)". What does that mean? Btw, I've won $50 twice in one week,  think I'm going to go back to playing a set of my own #s instead of quik pik.

It means playing 2 lines like:

01-03-05-07-09-11-13-15-17-19-21-23

02-04-06-08-10-12-14-16-18-20-22-24

Basically playing all the numbers available but different numbers on each line.

The drawings will be done via computer random number generator - NC's first game that doesn't use a traditional lottery ball machine. It appears Lottery Post will have to lower NC's State Lottery Report Card grade from their current A+ to a B, now that they will no longer have 100% true lottery drawings.

Lottery Post is on the ball! I see NC has already been downgraded to a B on LP's State Lottery Report Card page. Good work!
