COLUMBIA, S.C. — Lottery officials in South Carolina say three dozen stores have been suspended from selling tickets because of their involvement in the operation of illegal gambling machines.
Holli Armstrong with the South Carolina Education Lottery told local media that the stores are being suspended for six months because of the illegal machines.
Armstrong says the stores have received a letter about the suspension.
The stores' contracts with the lottery include a provision for a non-appealable six-month suspension if a magistrate determines there are illegal devices in their stores.
About 4,000 businesses in South Carolina sell lottery tickets.
OOOPS! BUSTED! Video poker machines etc. are illegal in SC - of course y'all retailers that got suspended already knew that!
Thanks for filling me in because I had no clue what type of illegal machines they were talking about.
These machines are popping up everywhere in stores here in Ga. I wonder if anybody ever wins big. I hope they don't ruin the fun for the entire state. smh
Man its open season on all these cheaters
Only 6 months? SC realizes this will hurt their bottom line, but kudos to them for taking action.
I thought the rewards were store merchandise?? Are they really paying $$$
Yes, illegal operators in SC really pay cash prizes on video poker, slot machines etc.
Personally, I wouldn't care if they were legalized, but the operators know bloody well that the machines are illegal. So I'm not terribly sympathetic with them.
It's like someone speeding in their car, they know it's illegal and that they might get in trouble, but they do it anyway. So if they get caught, hey, sucks to be them! Better luck next time!
