Powerball jackpot tonight is $178 million
For the first time since Aug. 22, someone has won the Mega Millions jackpot.
A New York lottery player matched Tuesday's winning Mega Millions numbers of 9, 15, 24, 39 and 41 with the Mega Ball of 1 and won the $321 million jackpot. That ended a streak of 20 straight Mega Millions drawings without a jackpot winner.
Five other players — two in Texas and one each in California, New Jersey and New York — came close to hitting the jackpot themselves, matching the first five numbers, but missing the Mega Ball. As a result, all of those players won $1 million except for the California player, who won $597,933 because that state pays lottery prizes on a pari-mutuel basis.
Friday's Mega Millions jackpot returns to its starting point of $15 million.
Tonight's Powerball jackpot is $178 million after no one matched Saturday's winning numbers of 1, 3, 13, 25 and 38 with the Powerball of 17. Saturday marked the 11th straight Powerball drawing with no grand prize winner, dating to Sept. 24. Tonight's Powerball drawing is at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
New Jersey town is extra-lucky
The New Jersey town of Clifton must be extra lucky because someone won a $1 million Mega Millions prize for the second drawing in a row there.
The latest $1 million ticket was purchased at Richfield Liquors on Clifton Avenue, state lottery officials said this morning.
Someone also bought a ticket worth $1 million for Friday's drawing about three miles away at a 7-Eleven on Main Avenue. That was one of two tickets sold for that drawing matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball — the other purchase was made in Linden.
The odds of a buying a $1 million ticket are 18,492,204 to 1, according to the Mega Millions website.
congrats to the winner/s.
Congrats to the lucky person(s) who won a big jackpot last night!
Yay! Single ticket! Congrats to the ticket holder(s).
To the whiners that say they wish MM and PB would pay several million dollar prizes instead of one big prize, there's four million dollar winners right there (should be five). In fact, people buy the tickets to these game because of the big prize.
Now you have that stupid Millionaire Monopoly game. $5 a tic.
Eat it up!
I can hear that line in Alicia Keys song "In New York, Concrete jungle where dreams are made of" playing in my head. Good job lucky New Yorker
Now you have that stupid Millionaire Monopoly game. $5 a tic.
Now that sounds like whining to me, quit whining about the whiners, whiner!
that's the song.
Congrats to the lucky winner.
Congratulations to the sole winner of the jackpot!! Congratulations to all the second place winners also!
Congratulations to that lucky winner! I wonder who we will be congratulating for the Powerball jackpot?
I re-read my post and I don't see where I mentioned your name. I don't see where I mentioned anyone's name.
You so reply about whining about whiners.....are YOU calling yourself a whiner? Are you feeling guilty? LOL.
I don't get it, why do you all give congrats to these winners? They just won YOUR Mega Millions, you should be pissed! LOL
If a person gets angry that someone else (in a different state or not) won a game that has odds of 1 in millions, that person should not be playing in the first place.
For that person really has no inkling of what the odds really are.
It's ok to dream of winning (Thrifty), but to expect to win?
Someone from NY or CA. The two big games (PB and MM) are rigged for those two states.
If you live elsewhere, please support your state lottery and stop throwing away money for these games.
Congratulation to the winner/s.......
It was a joke.
There are two different lottery curses out there and I'm afflicted by the "Can't win" curse anyway.
Don't let undeserving people in california, or new york get your money people!
I only play my state games (mostly, I did have a MM this last draw)
But all the winners are sold in the northern counties, Bergen, Essex and Hudson, close to NYC.
Near the crowds but far from me.
I'm buying extra tickets to help make that happen.
The MegaMillions jackpot doesn't belongs to anyone until they buy the winning ticket.
Louie, Oklahoma doesn't have a state lotto jackpot game(I wish we did) I did post the question on their Facebook page asking if this is something the state would consider in the future their response is below.
OKLC "We would love to have an in-state lotto game similar to what other states have. Unfortunately, the current legislative restrictions we operate under and limited sales in our state make it nearly impossible to fund a game like this".
How about getting games that will help increase ticket sales.
Monopoly Millionaires' Club top prize is $21M for Friday drawing with 14 Millionaires to be created, if the top prize is won? The millionaires frenzy starts at $25M top prize.
Yes. Buying more lottery tickets increases your chances of winning the lottery. California and New York lottery players spend money like hell on the lottery. It is the big difference.
You have zero losses, if you do not play the lottery. I do not mind donating $1 to Mega Millions. They say that it helps education?
You are playing the lottery because you believe that you can win SOMEDAY?
Your first lottery ticket improves your chances of winning the jackpot to infinity relative to having zero chances of winning.
It is always smart to play the lottery SOMEDAY.
I will just say thanks now!
Congratulations NY WINNERSpend Wisely
