Winner requested minimal publicity

The winning ticket for the $14.5 million New Year's Eve Lotto Texas drawing was claimed today at the Texas Lottery's headquarters in Austin.

Brandi Jackson of Cypress, Texas, selected the cash value option and will receive the prize in one lump sum payment of $10,392,246.79.

"On behalf of the Texas Lottery, I want to congratulate Brandi on this exciting win and start of the new year," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission. "We hope she will do great things with her prize money and we look forward to turning more Texans into millionaires in 2015."

Jackson's Quick Pick ticket matched all six numbers drawn (3, 6, 14, 43, 44, and 50) for the Dec. 31 drawing.

For selling the winning ticket, the Fairfield Food Mart at 15038 Mason Road in Cypress is eligible for a $146,747.49 retailer bonus.

The claimant requested minimal publicity.

Lotto Texas is played by picking six numbers from one to 54 and offers multi-million dollar jackpots. Drawings are every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. CT. For $1 more per play, a player can select the Extra! add-on feature and win up to $10,000 more on non-jackpot prizes. The current estimated annuitized jackpot for Lotto Texas is $5.25 million.

I'm thinking that probably IS the minimum publicity.  They're going to release your name and where you won it, but I did a quick check online and didn't see any photos of her, at least not from any lottery sites or online Texas newspaper websites that had the story.

I did see Scary Chick's profile pic when I did the image search which means Google indexes this site often.

Fantastic win Brandi Jackson!  As an astrologer, I would be very interested in seeing what date/time she played her Quick Pick ticket as I'm studying what lucky factors present at time of play may influence the outcome.  Way to go.

I read in the last commission meeting minutes that a bill was introduced that, if passed, would grant anonymity to winners of a million dollars or more. We'll see what happens.

Congratulations.

I agree, that is a good amount to win.  The Colorado Lottery seldom gets that high.  But I still try to buy it every once in a while (it goes to support the parks, open spaces, wildlife, etc).

Texas should change the law to guarantee winners anonymity. It is completely crazy to require winners to go public. It puts enormous pressure on winners, and many can't deal with it.

If you come into a large sum and everyone knows about it, you will be inundated with people seeking help. It takes a strong person to be able to resist it. But if you try to solve all the world's problems, you will create a big problem for yourself, you will go broke.

If you live in Texas, please contact your state politicians and ask them to have a good look at this. Other lotteries allow winners to remain anonymous, such as Australian state lotteries. If the Aussies can do it, surely the Yanks can?

I believe state law requires the publication of the identity of lottery winner. So don't shoot the messenger. Contact your state representative and voice your opinion.
