Pennsylvania Lottery

Third state to offer game; Virginia starting in May

By Todd Northrop

Ticket sales are underway for the new Pennsylvania Lottery Cash4Life game, a multi-state game offering a top prize of $1,000 a day for life and a second prize of $1,000 a week for life.

In Pennsylvania, the first ticket was sold over the counter at 5:23 a.m. at Fast Fill, 24 Blakeslee Blvd., Lehighton, Carbon County. A few seconds later, the first ticket generated by a self-service terminal was sold at Wawa, 8220 W. Bartram Ave., Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Lottery is the third lottery to join the Cash4Life game, which was launched by New Jersey and New York in June 2014. Tickets are $2 and drawings are held each Monday and Thursday at 9 p.m.

To play Cash4Life, players choose five numbers from 1-60 and one number from 1-4, the green Cash Ball. Players may choose their own numbers or select Quick Pick.

To win the top prize, players must exactly match all five numbers drawn and the Cash Ball number. The top prize is paid in lifetime annuity installments of $365,000 a year or a one-time payment of $7 million. In cases where more than one top-prize winning ticket is sold for a drawing, the top prizes are split equally among all top prize winners in all participating states.

To win the second prize, players must exactly match all five numbers drawn but not the Cash Ball number. The second prize is an annuity prize of $1,000 a week for life or a one-time payment of $1 million.

Cash4Life also offers seven other ways to win prizes ranging from $2,500 to $2.

Odds of winning the $1,000 a day for life prize are 1 in 21.8 million. The odds for winning the $1,000 a week for life prize are 1 in 7.3 million. Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 8.

Pennsylvania Lottery Cash4Life may be played up to 10 consecutive drawings in advance. Players can find playslips and how-to-play brochures at Lottery retailers.

As with any multi-state game, all Cash4Life sales and related profits will remain in the state where the ticket was sold. All prizes must be cashed in the state where the ticket was sold.

The state of Virginia is also due to add Cash4Life to its portfolio of games, starting May 3.  To make room for the new game, Virginia will be canceling the Decades of Dollars game, with its last drawing occurring on April 30.

All Pennsylvania lottery drawing results are published at Lottery Post's Pennsylvania Lottery Results page minutes after each drawing.

PA's portfolio is already too big. I'm sure they'll have no problem though keeping it all in order.
We have way too many games right now with P3, P4, P2, Quinto, Treasure Hunt, Match 6, Cash 5,
Powerball and MegaMillions.

With the instant tickets and the Millionaire Raffle twice per year PA has so many choices.
I believe it's too many personally. So what I don't like, I don't play. But I really wish
they'd stop adding. There are so many and with not being able to cancel any tickets now in
PA I think offering so many games is a giant plus for them. Error? Too bad. Buy it is what
its come to now. I can't keep up with the days/games/jackpots...I often wonder how many
older folk are forced into buying something they did not ask for because they take: We can't
cancel the mistakes as you must buy this ticket.

Now with Cash 4 Life, there is yet another game to be confused about. Greed is sad.
Good luck to whoever plays the new game in PA.

This is great for Pennsylvania lottery players and to be able to play up to 10 consecutive drawings in advances, that will come in handy in winter months. The best part Virginia will get to play the game starting May 3.

Don't be fooled by the 4 green balls. Makes it look easy but it's just as tough as pb/mm. Still worth grabbing a few tickets.

If the game is in conjunction with the NY/NJ one, then they just took a game with horrible odds for it's price point and made it worse. The jackpot never increases so by adding another State all they really did was increase the odds of the jackpot winner having to split the prize. In NY the game is doing so badly they have to continue to offer free quick picks, with those odds and price I'd rather play something else but good luck to those who continue to play!

agree. game sounds good on paper but it is annoyingly hard to hit. people lose interest quickly in this one. especially with that 2.oo price tag. prize not big enough for older players. a lousy 1000 a day before taxes is better than working but trying to grab a MM or PB 2nd prize makes more sense.

Despite all the product development and marketing research, many lotteries continue to release lousy, convoluted games. It's understandable why though, in desperation to grow sales; greed. More who play Cash4Life, worse the payouts can get. While many lottery players won't understand the odds, some of them will notice all the disclaimers and notices about prize sharing and liability limits.

And even the most novice players will realize quickly how difficult the game is. Sure one can easily hit the Cash ball, but that pays zero. Not a fun game.

The states are also taking some risk since the jackpots never reset and build backup.  The jackpots are always the same regardless of what happened in its most recent drawing.  Once there are enough players to have frequent wins, this game will be discontinued or they will stop paying out the full jackpots.

The more the merrier for players of this game.

That's the point! Players can choose which games, if any, they want to play. Just because more choice is offered, it does not mean people have to play all games offered.

just wanted to chime in that beginners luck is working with this game. Won't play it too much, yet its nice to have a different game that i can say, wow! so close but no cigar:).

Anyone know the last time it hit for top prize? Dont understand if they are going many weeks why it isnt building the pot.Instead it would be split?
