CLIFTON, N.J. — Yokasta Boyer of Clifton uncovered some buried treasure just before her taxes were due this year, according to officials at the New Jersey Lottery.

The busy Boyer, who has both a full-time job and a part-time job, was organizing papers and sifting through documents as she prepared her taxes this year, officials said.

Boyer found a Jersey Cash 5 lottery ticket from April 14, 2015. Taking a break from her chores, she checked the ticket number at the lottery website and couldn't believe what she saw — it was a winning ticket.

Boyer asked her brother to check the numbers and he confirmed that the winning ticket, worth $472,271, belonged to her.

Boyer filed her claim on April 1, 2016. Because the ticket would have expired on April 14, a year after the purchase, she found it just in time, lottery officials said.

Officials issued a news release announcing Boyer's winnings on Thursday.

Boyer said she has no plans for her prize, other than to pay off her debts.

She said she works 60 hours a week, but may be able to cut back during the coming Christmas holiday season to spend more time with family and friends, thanks to her winnings.

Boyer purchased her winning ticket at the Quick Mart, 155 Lakeview Ave. in Clifton, lottery officials said.

.

That should be a lesson to all of us, to not lose track of our tickets, not even for a minute.

I managed to get one of the vynyl envelopes, a few years back.  That's where I keep all my lotto
activity. It's needed several patch up jobs, with packing tape, but it's the one place I know I can
find all my lotto activity.

OK

Groppo, I use the clear lottery ticket envelope too, very handy! Hurray!

Groppo, you may choose to ask one of the lottery distributors that you frequent if they have any spare envelopes lying around that you could have to replace your torn one.  Anyhow, it is probably best to ask one of the longer time managers; as sometimes these are slide somewhere and less observant employees begin to overlook their dusty location.

I enjoyed seeing Ms. Boyer's look of genuine appreciation for her big lottery win!  Congratulations Ms. Boyer.

That's just a fabulous story! What a stroke of luck for her to find that ticket in time. It's great to hear about someone working so hard to take care of herself with two jobs getting a whole lot of breathing room in her life. I so hope it works out for her. Congratulations!

That's just like finding $20 in your pants pocket before putting them in the laundry, except she found $472K! Nice!

Starting to see a pattern here. She claimed her ticket back on April1st but the news release didn't go out until yesterday. There was a $169 million PB winner who was also given the courtesy of a three month headstart before their names were released to the media and the wolves.

Glad she found her ticket in the nick of time and hopefully she took the necessary precaution to protect herself. There was a poor guy in Georgia who claimed a prize comparable to hers and within days was involved in a home invasion where he was shot in front of his children.
