Rhode Island Lottery Drops The Ball

Rhode Island LotteryRhode Island Lottery: Rhode Island Lottery Drops The Ball

The Rhode Island Lottery plans to double the prize money for the Wild Money drawing on Saturday after it discovered a mistake in the game earlier this week.

During Tuesday's Wild Money drawing, an employee discovered the No. 11 ball was missing from the machine used to draw the numbers. The ball apparently fell out of the drum during a practice round and fell on the floor.

"It was found right underneath the machine," Lottery Director Gerald Aubin told News Channel 10.

The lottery has no bylaws for dealing with a dropped ball, so officials had to come up with a way to make it up to Wild Money players. The lottery will double any prize for the weekend Wild Money drawing, including the jackpot.

Officials also said anyone with a Wild Money ticket for Tuesday's drawing with the number 11 on it can bring it to lottery headquarters in Cranston. They will be given a refund or a new ticket.

Wild Money drawings are held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Another way to make it up to RI lottery players is for RI to join "Hot Lotto".

I thought there were supposed to be auditors on hand at the machines to check the number of balls and monitor all the drawings. If so they should be fired.

They should just make the 11 a winning number. Anyone who played the 11, it is considered a number drawn.

The reason why RI is willing to double even the JACKPOT prize is: there was a jackpot winner Saturday (7/26).

So, what if you played the 11 and it kept you out of winning a small prize or even a bigger prize. They F'ed up. The player didn't. That one ball not being there changed the course of everything. If I played the 11 and it kept me from winning big time, oh, don't you know I would go off on them.
