Tennessee LotteryTennessee Lottery: Tenn. Lottery Could Include Satellite Network

A legislative sponsor of Tennessee's lottery law says the game could be a high-tech operation when retailers start selling tickets.
State Rep. Chris Newton of Cleveland says retail outlets may be connected to the lottery's online games by traditional phone lines, but other technologies could be featured. He says the technology is there to do the satellite hookup.

A mid-February or later starting date is projected since the Tennessee lottery board rejected a joint operating deal with Georgia.

Tennessee Education Lottery Board spokesman Will Pinkston says members want the state to be on the cutting edge with electronic lottery games.

Oooh...satellite might prove troublesome in bad weather. If they go with satellite, they need to have a telephone backup....
