Someone out there could be a millionaire tonight and not even know it. A huge lottery jackpot has gone unclaimed for more than a month now.

You could call it the biggest little casino in Northern California, Kavanagh's Liquor Store boasts four lotto winners totaling $48 million. The house's - or, rather, the liquor store's - share totals about a quarter million dollars. Now that the word of Kavanagh's win streak is out, folks are pouring in.

Lottery player Sally Holloway says, "After the last winning I started coming here, I read about it in the paper."

Cardella Johns drives all the way from Oakland. "That's right," she says. "I want to win."

California's luckiest lotto store had a $28 million winner last month, and three others since 1989 totaling more than $46 million. Amazingly, the $28 million winner has yet to claim the prize.

Kavanagh's manager David Spahn says, "Now we're getting phone calls from all the people in the area saying, you know, 'I bought a ticket, but I can't find it,' that kind of stuff."

The winner has 180 days - until March 8th - to step forward. Statewide, 15 jackpots since 1987 went unclaimed. The $121 million in prize money went directly to the state education fund.

"I do have one customer that does come in quite regularly, every week, buys his tickets, still hoping to get another one," Spahn says. "He only got 4 million, so he wants more."

CASH Only

Does anyone know whether the ticket is for cash or annuity? (CA requires the choice to be made when BUYING the ticket).
