The Florida Lottery announced today that beginning January 28, the Mega Money game is getting way more mega.  The first drawing for the new game will be held Friday, January 30, 11:15 p.m. EST.

"I am pleased to announce exciting changes to the new Mega Money game," Florida Lottery Secretary Rebecca Dirden Mattingly said.  "We listened to our players in redesigning the game.  They told us they wanted more ways to win and bigger prizes and we have given it to them."

Top annuity prizes for the new Mega Money game will begin at $500,000, and can climb to $2 million.  Once the top prize reaches the $2 million annuity prize, then all other prize money categories will increase.  Drawings will be held on Tuesday and Friday.  The new Mega Money game offers better odds, more ways to win and a chance to win a free ticket for matching just the MegaBall.  Players pick four numbers from 1-to-44 on one panel and one MegaBall number from 1-to-22 on the second panel.

The new Mega Money ticket cost $1 and can be purchased at more than 11,000 retailers throughout the state of Florida.  Winning tickets for prizes less than $600 may be redeemed at any Lottery retailer that sells the ticket.  Prizes of $600 to $250,000 can be redeemed at any of the Lottery's eight District Offices.  Prizes above $250,000 must be redeemed at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

Since 1999, the Florida Lottery has transferred $3.7 billion to the Florida Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.  This brings the Lottery's commitment to education revenue transfers to more than $13 billion to date.  The Florida Lottery was created in 1986 for the purpose of enabling the people of the state to benefit from significant additional moneys for education.  By an overwhelming vote of two-to-one, the State Constitution was thereby amended to include a new department operating as the Florida Lottery.

Todd:

IIRC the CURRENT (4/32 + 1/32) Mega Money is all-cash. Sorry if I didn't clarify.

Yes, the current top-prize for Mega Money is a cash prize.  They will be changing that to an annuity prize.  I assume there will be a cash option, although it hasn't been announced.
