Euro Millions

The first draw of a new European multi-country lottery game which offers jackpots of up to £50m takes place tonight.

Tickets for the Euro Millions game have been on sale in the UK, Spain and France for the first draw which takes place in Paris tonight.

The jackpot is thought to be in the region of £10m, although organizers say this will grow as time goes on.

Players choose five numbers from a list of one to 50, then two numbers from one to nine from a Lucky Star panel on the play slip.

It will initially cost £1.50 to play in the UK and two euros in France and Spain.

Euro Millions is a link-up between the UK's National Lottery and Francaise des Jeux of France and Loterias y Apuestas del Estado of Spain.

Camelot says there is a one-in-24 chance of winning a prize on EuroMillions.

Prizes start at an estimated £6.70 for matching two numbers from the first five and one Lucky Star number.

The odds of matching all seven numbers and winning the jackpot are just over one in 76 million.

The prize draw will take place in Paris every Friday and will be shown live on Sky One at 9pm in the UK.

In the UK, each £1.50 ticket is shared in the same way as the £1 for Lotto.  In the new game 50% goes into the prize fund, 28% to good causes, 12% to the government in duty, 5% to retailers, and the same again to Camelot to cover operating costs and profits.
