Mega Millions: 'Amazing' Mega Millions Sales Pushes Jackpot to $230 Million
Mega Millions players all over the country are lining up for a shot at tonight's mega-jackpot. In fact sales are so brisk that the estimated jackpot for tonight's drawing has been revised upward to $230 million.
Tonight's drawing will be held in New York City's Times Square.
"This is an indication of how strong Mega Millions sales are today across the Commonwealth," says Virginia Lottery Executive Director Penelope W. Kyle. "By revising the estimated jackpot upward, we are saying that the actual jackpot amount, which is constantly changing, is growing at an unusually fast pace."
The estimated jackpot was revised upward just yesterday from $215 million to $222 million. Tuesday's drawing, when no one won the estimated $177 million jackpot, produced more than 1.3 million winning tickets for prizes ranging from $2 to $175,000. The jackpot has now rolled 14 times without a winner.
Tonight's drawing results will be displayed live at the Web site BigGameLottery.com.
Mega Millions' predecessor, the Big Game, made history in May of 2000 with the largest jackpot ever in North America: $363 million. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately one in 135 million.
