I have to disagree. Unlikely combinations do come up and should be played ocassionally. When 11-44-45-48-50 + 2 comes up that is very unlikely and that is one thing. But when you are talking about 1-2-3-4-5 +6 coming up, that is another thing altogether. The odds of five sequential coming up are extremely slim (and rarely if ever happens) and much less for six. I don't think this guy from Indiana winning with this unlikely set of numbers is justification for running out and playing 1-2-3-4-5 +6 (but I am sure there are people out there who do) or any other set of six sequential numbers. Not a smart play in my opinion.

I'm a terrible human random number generator...one of the worst :-) Looking back over old tickets I find myself avoiding certain numbers (like 27 and 14 and 33 and usually 08) almost unconciously for some unexplained reason. I really would like to know why I repeatedly avoid certain numbers without realizing it when manually selecting. Just as mentioned above, I also frequently notice myself avoiding consecutive numbers when I pick my numbers at the last minute manually on the card ...sequences that should occasionally be played. For that reason I always try to produce the 'my-pick' portion of the card ahead of time using either a basic system or a prior mechanical draw. It certainly is true that a last minute hurry and fill-in-the-card selection at the ticket counter can win the lottery. I just don't feel comfortable hunting and pecking away on the play-card. In the end I usually end up adding one r-n-g quick-pick to each my-pick for balance and good measure.

... the lottery never fails to surprise!

Since megamillions started in May 2002 there have been approx 65 draws with sequential numbers (about 34% of the time)....only 2 draws have had triple sequence numbers, about 11 draws with 2 sets of sequence numbers and about 52 draws with 2 sequence numbers ....Playing sequence numbers on every third pick is a good bet.
