Mega Millions

Time is running out for a Virginia Lottery player who bought a winning Mega Millions ticket in Virginia Beach. The ticket is worth $175,000 until 5:00 PM Thursday, when it expires.

The ticket was purchased for the November 14, 2003 drawing at General Booth Citgo, located at 1896 General Booth Blvd. in Virginia Beach. According to Virginia Lottery rules, the ticket expires after 180 days.

Amazingly, another ticket sold at the same retailer won $175,000 in the same drawing. That prize was claimed by a Virginia Beach woman on November 18. The winning numbers for that drawing were 03-13-31-41-42 and the Mega Ball number was 52. The ticket matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number.

All unclaimed Virginia Lottery prizes go to the state's Literary Fund, to be used solely for the purpose of school construction, additions and renovations. Since 1988, the Lottery has transferred more than $119 million in unclaimed prizes to the Literary Fund.

All profits from the Virginia Lottery, including Mega Millions tickets sold in Virginia, go to public school education in the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2003 the Lottery turned over more than $375 million for Virginia's public schools.

Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time.
