Mega MillionsMega Millions: Maryland Seniors Win $175,000 Mega Millions Lottery Prize

The retirement nest eggs for eight Maryland seniors just got a little richer.

The Maryland Lottery announced Tuesday afternoon that "a lively group of senior citizens" collected their $175,000 prize from last Friday's Mega Millions game. Six women and two men comprise the group of seniors, who call themselves "The Crazy 8s Club."

The seniors matched the first five numbers drawn -- 10, 19, 32, 26 and 46 -- but they missed the Mega Ball, 06. Had they matched the Mega Ball on their ticket, they would have shared a $13 million jackpot.

Lottery officials said Lois Hinks, a retired health insurance caseworker, discovered that the group had won the prize.

"We are all good friends who live on the same floor of the Ridge Residences in Westminster," said George Grogan, who is the group's founder. "We do so many fun things together. We love to eat, play jigsaw puzzles and, of course, play the lottery."

After taxes, the winners will each receive more than $14,765.62, many of whom said they will keep a portion and share the remainder with their families.

Why not? When you die the balance of the annunity amount is pasted on to your relatives. Nothing is loss. The annunity is guaranteed.
