First Triple Rollover for UK Lotto to Spark Ticket Frenzy

The UK Lotto will see its first ever triple rollover jackpot this weekend, with a top prize of at least £21.5 million (US$39.2 million).

If only one person matches all six numbers, they will become the largest single winner.

Operators Camelot are now warning people 'buy early to avoid disappointment' because no extra tickets will go on sale above the usual quota.

Chief executive Dianne Thompson said: 'This is the first triple rollover in our 10-year history.

'The estimated jackpot for Saturday's Lotto is £21.5 million (US$39.2 million) but it could go higher.'

Insiders say the jackpot is likely to top £25 million (US$45.6 million) the second biggest jackpot total ever.

The biggest was £42 million (US$76.6 million) on January 6, 1996, shared by three ticketholders who refused to be publicly identified.

The largest identified jackpot win went to friends Paul Maddison and Mark Gardiner, who shared £22.5 million (US$41 million) in 1996.

The winning numbers will be picked during Dale Winton's BBC1 National Lottery Saturday night show.

Last night, the identity of the celebrity guest chosen to press the button and draw the balls was not known.

In the 10 years since the National Lottery started, there have been 10 double-rollovers, each triggering a surge in ticket sales.

Last night, a Camelot insider said punters should pick wisely to maximise their chances of winning a big prize.

The source said: 'People tend to pick their birthday dates when choosing numbers so our best advice is go for a larger number.

'Don't pick below 12 the months of the year and pick above 31 most days in a month to be extra lucky.'

The triple rollover is happening because no ticketholders won last night's double rollover jackpot an estimated £9.6 million (US$17.5 million).

The balls were 11, 15, 18, 24, 34 and 44 and the bonus was 28.

What does the above statement mean? I was not aware that a quota on ticket sales was imposed. Why would a quota be required in a paramutel game?

Good luck,
Jake

Yes that quota line raised my eyebrows.  What is the payout of this game and it seems quite large to get a jackpot that high in three rollovers.  I know the Brits love to punt, I would love to know more about this game.  And congrats to a lucky Nassau County person who won the NY lotto.  My home county of birth!

If it becomes a "quadruple rollover," the jackpot money will roll down.
