Missouri Lottery

The Missouri Lottery had record sales of nearly $800 million last fiscal year, the lottery said Wednesday.

The lottery recorded $791.5 million in estimated sales for the fiscal year that ended June 30, an 11.5 percent increase from the previous year.

Lottery director Jim Scroggins attributed the increase in sales to high jackpots in the state Lotto and multistate Powerball games, increased Scratchers sales and growth in Club Keno.

Lottery players won more than $484 million for the year.

The high sales also meant the highest transfer of lottery funds to public elementary, secondary and higher education ever, at more than $230 million, up 19 percent from the previous year. Proceeds from the lottery represent about 3 percent of state spending on elementary, secondary and higher education.
