Virginia Lottery: Man whose house burned down wins lotteryA Virginia man who lost all of his belongings when his house burned down during Hurricane Isabel last year has won a $150,000 lottery prize.
"Lot of problems gone," said Sherbie Tucker, who works for Teamsters Local 822 in Norfolk.
Tucker bought his $5 winning ticket Friday from Tom and Jerry's Quick Stop in Smithfield. There were four Friday Night Poker tickets in the state with the top prize of $150,000.
Tucker is the second winner, according to Virginia Lottery officials. The other two prizes have not been claimed.
Tucker's winnings came to about $100,000 after taxes. He said he'll use the money to recover his losses.
"A new house and furniture," he said, "to get my life back together."
Since the fire, Tucker and his wife have been renting a mobile home in Isle of Wight County.
The financial burden of rebuilding his house in Smithfield's Historic District has been rough, Tucker said. His insurance money didn't cover all of the costs of the specifications that have to be met.
