Oregon LotteryOregon Lottery: Oregon lottery posts record sales

The Oregon Lottery finished its 19th year of operation with record overall sales for the second consecutive year.

Overall, the Lottery completed the 2004 fiscal year with total sales of $895.1 million, surpassing last year's record of $855.8 million.

Some of the sales highlights for fiscal year 2004 include:

  • Video Lottery net sales of $530.9 million, new record

  • Keno sales of $116.5 million, new record

  • Powerball sales of $45.9 million, new record

  • Sports Action with $10.1 million, new record

  • Megabucks sales of $46.5 million, its best sales year since 1995

  • Thirteen of the top 20 all-time Lottery sales weeks were recorded during this past fiscal year

"Lottery retailers throughout Oregon and Lottery staff have worked very hard to help reach these record-breaking sales levels," said Lottery Director Brenda Rocklin. "We are looking forward to this upcoming year, the Lottery's 20th anniversary, being just as exciting and successful."

For fiscal year 2004, the Lottery transferred $364.7 million to the state to be used for public education, economic development, state parks and salmon habitat restoration.

Since the Lottery began in 1985, more than $3.8 billion has been raised for public education, economic development and natural resource programs and more than $9.7 billion has been paid to players in prizes.

i understand that expansion of hot lotto is a good idea, but if every MUSL state had hot lotto, then it would probably be competing, in terms of players and jackpots, with powerball.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

Hot Lotto will never be changed in such a way to create $100 million jackpots, but IMO if states like Connecticut and Oregon are ever going to be interested, MUSL needs to make bigger jackpots possible.
