The Tennessee Lottery Monday unveiled its newest computerized game, Lotto 5, set to launch August 29.

Prizes will be paid in cash, and the top prize will likely range from the tens of thousands to more than one-hundred thousand dollars.

Until ticket sales begin, its difficult to predict what the prize amounts will be, said Rebecca Paul, CEO and president of the Tennessee Lottery. However, weve heard from so many players who are looking forward to this type of game, so we can safely say Lotto 5 will mean more fun for players and more dollars for students.

Playing Lotto 5 is easy: For $1 per play, players select five numbers from 1 to 39. If 3, 4 or 5 of those numbers are drawn in any order, the player wins. If there is no top-prize winner, the cash for that prize will be added to the top prize for the next drawing. Prize amounts are pari-mutuel, which means all winners share an equal portion of the winnings in each prize category. Overall odds of winning are 1 in 100.

Drawings will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights and can be seen at the following times on the following Lottery TV network partners throughout the state:

Nashville: WKRN ABC Channel 2, 10:34 p.m. CST
Memphis: WMC NBC Channel 5, 10:40 p.m. CST
Jackson: WBBJ ABC Channel 7, 10:34 p.m. CST
Chattanooga: WTVC ABC Channel 9, 11:34 p.m. EST
Knoxville: WBIR NBC Channel 10, 11:34 p.m. EST
Tri-cities area: WKPT ABC Channel 19, 11:34 p.m. EST

Tough to have a take five game that doesnt have the lower tier prize, but that means jackpots will be huge.  Why not do it every nite? Sooner or later you know they will change it to it.

gutgnt,

It looks like they will have lower-tier prizes: "If 3, 4 or 5 of those numbers are drawn in any order, the player wins."

I mean lower tier as 2 out of 5 numbers (Pa, Ill, NY have this etc).  Odds of 100 to 1 for a buck are quite steep but mean huge possible jackpots.

I'd like to know the % to be paid in each of the prize levels.

seeing as how it's a 5 of 39 game, either the jackpot, or the lower prizes had better be worth it.

I'm sure it is compared to NY Lotto 6/59.

the top prize really isn't worth it for the matrix.  for 5/39, there is no excuse for why the jackpot is less than $100K at the starting level.
