California Lottery: Three tickets split $100 million California lottery jackpot
California Lottery officials announced Sunday that two of the three winning tickets in Saturday's $100 million Super Lotto Plus jackpot were purchased in the Bay Area.
One of the three tickets, each now worth $33.3 million, was purchased in Los Altos at JP Liquors, lottery spokeswoman Rosa Escutia said today. A second ticket was purchased at Pal Liquors in Sausalito.
The third winning ticket was purchased at Calva Dairy in Huntington Beach, Escutia said.
None of the big winners in the sixth-largest jackpot in the state's history had come forward as of midday Sunday, Escutia said.
"We are looking forward to having them come forward soon,'' she said, noting that tickets may be turned in to any of the lottery's 18,000 retailers statewide or to lottery district offices.
At JP Liquors, owner Greg Rivera is hoping the person who bought a winning ticket at his store will turn it in there, because he's anxious to know who it is.
"All of our customers are regulars, and I have no idea who it would be,'' Rivera said today. "All I know is it wasn't me.''
Rivera said he always buys one lotto ticket on each Wednesday and Saturday, when the drawings are held. His picks this Saturday were "not even close'' to the winning numbers, he said.
For owning the store where a winning ticket was sold, however, Rivera will receive a one-half of 1 percent bonus from the lottery, which he said comes to $160,000.
"It's not bad at all, but it's still not enough to pay my mortgage off in this area,'' Rivera laughed.
When a winning ticket was sold at Rivera's store a few years ago, he got a $40,000 bonus and put a new roof on his home. This time, the money will go directly toward the store mortgage, he said.
"I might take a little vacation,'' he allowed. "I like Hawaii.''
According to the lottery's Web site, the three big winners were followed by another 22 people who chose five of the six winning numbers, earning nearly $30,000 each.
California schools also will win millions, Escutia said, as ticket sales generated $62 million for public schools.
Saturday's winning numbers were 17, 39, 33, 28, and 18. The mega number was 19.
