New York LotteryNew York Lottery: Smoking ban foes plan shutdown of NY lottery game

A New York City-based group is calling on small business owners across the state to shut down their Quick Draw lottery games for a week to protest the state's smoking ban.

N-Y-C CLASH which stands for Citizens Lobby Against Smoker Harassment has called for the shutdown from October 23rd to the 29th.

The group is asking taverns and restaurants, bowling alleys, inns and fraternal lodges to shut off their Quick Draw machines during that period as a way to send a message to lawmakers in Albany.

Enacted in July 2003, the smoking ban affects bars, restaurants, offices and covered outdoor patios.

Several establishments have gone under because of lost business blamed on the law, including Jimmy Mac's, a popular Buffalo restaurant and bar that closed its doors on Monday after 23 years.

The last time tavern owners pulled the plug on Quick Draw was in May 2003, costing the state more than $200,000 in lost lottery sales.

good idea. if ohio had keno, and made their cigarette laws incredibly harsh, i'd do the same thing. there is such a thing as smoking and non-smoking sections. if you don't want to deal with smokers, then sit in the non-smoking section. it's liberals like rob reiner who want to make smoking illegal.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

i doubt it. they've been supposedly loking at it for years, but PA is doing things now to keep bars and smokers away, so i don't think they'd offer keno anytime soon. there's that and the fact that there's at least one convenience store wthin a 100 yards of a bar, and they do not like to give lottery licenses to retailers too close to each other.

i'd like it if PA offered keno as a daily game, maybe mid-day and evening drawings?

Instead of Quick Draw, NY should shut down Lotto (poor payout %) and its annuity-only scratch games.
