Prize winning tickets $600 and over can have common non-winning three letter codes. The three letter coding is for ticket retailers (who cash in tickets $599 or less). I have seen big winners before (posted in one of the lottery offices) and one of them had the code NVW which is a common non-winning code for tickets.

FYI - one time many years ago I bought the last 15 tickets on a $1 roll in MA - 13 straight losers, one $1 winner and another loser. So, yes, I guess it does work, sort of.

We have a relatively new $10 card called cash spectacular in NC and I have bought many of them. My favorite no. at the bottom of the card was 014 as I have won $100 3 times with that no. and $50 twice but the luck did not hold out as I have bought at least 3 of that no. and have won nothing.

Your best bet would be to buy $20.00 tickets. The state has a bigger advantage over the player on lower priced games. For example in CT the states initial advantage on a $1.00 ticket is around 35%, a $5.00 ticket is about 30% and $20.00 tickets are only about 26%. Higher priced games in all states offer better odds than lower priced games. Unfortunately, Mass doesn't provide enough info for you to figure out which $20.00 ticket is best.

For the first time a played second chance on the non- wining scratch

off tickets. The majority of the scratch offs that I play are Jumbo Bucks.

I thought that they were going to have at least 1 prize

for every ticket that they make. Obviously that was not the case. I was very

disappointed that I didn't win anything. During the duration

I entered at least 500 tickets. I wont be so dedicated next time.

It doesn't really matter on my luck. I've had good luck on scratchers while scratching both at the store and at home.

Speaking of looking more carefully, I do tend to look more carefully at home, though. (and caught some missed # matches in the process....just like yesterday, where I caught a missed number match on a ticket I thought was a dud.....turned out to be a free ticket

You're actually a little bit off, on the average a states advantage in Scratch games is around 33% - 40% for lower priced games and it is about 24%-28% for the higher priced ($10 and up) so Dustin should have lost about 750.00 on his investment .

NC has that same code. I just bought 47.00 worth of scratch tickets a little while ago when I bought my pick 3 tickets and did not win one dime on any of them.

If you lose the letters are NWR, LRY,VRL,HWV or HVR......anyway if you don't see fiv, or ten or fft for fifteen etc. you know you did not win and as I scratched just a little and saw one of those letters I knew I did not win anything.

I've heard about it and I've won some with them and lost some with them as a cashier told me the same thing but I don't think it's true......it's just plain luck.

I've also been told the cards win at the first of the roll and the last of the roll by another cashier and that's not true either as I have won both ways.

I think they are put in randomly as the people at the lottery headquarters told me.

My similar experience is with another customer.

I bought 2 of the Snow Bird scratch tix at a publix store in Florida and then moved aside.

2 customers behind were literally looking over my shoulder.

When they saw that I had 2 losing tix, they immediately bought 2 more and demanded that they be from the same pile that I just bought (pointing over to me to explain their point to the clerk).

In front of me they scratched and revealed a $500 winner.

Cool. I would have done the same thing if I knew it was a winner.

I know this is a bit off the subject. But thanks for that last line. I was just in a 7 eleven and the clerk said that a guy bought $60 worth of $1 tickets and won $1,000. You have just proven that it doesn't always work out that way

Never had that problem, they would scractch them for me.

Thank goodness they quit putting the winning code in the barcode here! There were clerks who figured out exactly where to scratch a line across the code to be able to see if it was a winner. They'd sell the non-winners to unsuspecting customers who either didn't notice the scratch or didn't know you could tell if it was a winner by looking there, and they kept the winning tickets for themselves. I actually saw this happen, tho I didn't know it at the time. The guy in front of me asked about the

Any prize less than about $600 (varies slightly by state) can be claimed at any lottery retailer. They do not hold back any taxes when you claim your prize for less than $600. Technically, you're supposed to claim such prizes on your taxes at the end of the year, but I doubt many people do that, because nobody really knows they won anything.

Each scratch off game is already determined. Why would you want to play a game thats pre-determined ?!?! It's the very reason why we all want lotto games to have lotto balls instead of computerized drawings. Avoid the scratch offs..it's a losing cause... if your lucky enough to get a win, take the money and run! Stick with the lotto 3,4,5 and 6 number games that havent been pre-determined yet. We went to a dirty Santa party before Christmas. Hubby wanted to take $20 in scratch offs.. I didn't like it since there was good chance they would walk with only a few free tickets. I bought the tickets then included a $25 gift certificate to Chili's as perk.

Sure enough the woman got only two free tickets. At least they will get to go to Chili's for a lunch.

We were at the grocery store today and on the way out Mrs. Coin Toss gets two scratchers from the machine.

So later on after we put the groceries up we went back out to have coffee at one of those quaint little Scottish places .

Hi this is the break down of the merry millions in MD the 1st number is the prize the 2nd number is the amount of prizes and the 3rd number is the amount of tickets remaining. This info will change daily as they sell tickets.

In NJ, go on to NJ lottery official page, hit instant games and there is an actual picture of the scratch-off and under it is the remaining prize list. It changes every Sunday night at midnight and remaining statistics are same of week, then following midnight Sunday is updated. Of all those states you listed DE has the lowest tax burden. Despite the tax rate being higher than MA's, DE has a zero tax rate and high deductables, plus also no car tax (or whatever you guys call it)and much lower property taxes.

Actually there are 2 top prizes on the $10 and $20 life series tickets. I was wrong. The top prize on the $20 ticket is $2,125,000 so at $100,000 a year for life' would work out to 21.25 years. I believe like lotto if you won the top prize you could take the $2,125,000 in a lump sum. I don't think, for instance if someone was 20 years old and won the top prize, they would pay him a hundred grand a year if he lived to be 80, there is a cap on it.

I have to agree. I know this one store where the owners have the tickets spread out on a counter, behind a glass partition, and customers buy the tickets and scratch them off there. The people who work there sometimes watch those who scratch off tickets and don't win, and then the workers buy the next ticket because obviously the chances of winning are greater. I imagine this happens often in other places too. So there definitely is an advantage to working in those places, but I'm not sure that... [ More ]

Yesterday I learned a new lesson in scratchers, you only get back what you put in to it and if you get more you was lucky just like I was when I got those 3 500's and couple of 100's.

P.S. those big winners and even the low ones had no L on the corners of them.

I've been watching and playing SOME here in NC. Looking at the list of the winners at the lottery website and using my trusty map, there's an area where MOST of the winners are concentrated. Most of the winners seem to be concentrated near the state capitol (within 10-40 miles). Does this pattern mimick those in your state? Now I m talking about scratches only! I been on a down end of those tickets Cod, I truly think these tickets are a scam some times.

Watch for Set for Life tickets and 5 mill Jackpot those are the most obvious all.

I don't know the Canadian laws, but since governments are governments, I suspect it would be illegal in Canada for an individual/individuals to try and distribute their own scratcht tickets, just as it is here. The govt controls them. Only the govt (here at state level) is allowed to distribute them.

And the last thing the govt would want is someone else going into competition with the govt

That's $50 spent on ONE ticket, and if you lose, you have to explain that you lost $50 on a single bet.

I have a policy, I don't explain my gambling losses to anyone and I don't expect anyone else to explain their gambling losses to me.

Maybe if I had a hard working spouse supporting me or a family too young to support themselves depending on me I would feel differently.

Here in FL on the $10 and $20 tickets there is usually a symbol, like a money bag or a train , that is a $100 or $200 prize and it is usually found in the top upper left corner or bottom right hand corner or thier corresponding rows. I see what your saying.

I've seen it happend to myself by total accident the person scanned it it read loser...lmao, but thank god it was a dud.

I'll take my chances any were with even on the machines. Like today spent $ 20 a machine and came away with $500 last week spent $20 at the store came away with a $100 you do the math.

That's very intresting. I seem only to get the same amount of the scratch off as the prize. I got frustrated and wrote the NCEL and asked why there were few winners in the Fayetteville, NC area of large amounts. And why did a town the size of Rocky Mount, NC had 5-10 times the winners of larger amounts. It was reasoned that there were MORE tickets sold in the town of Rocky Mount than Fayetteville. There's a new scratcher coming to Virginia soon by the name of Wild Cherries. It will have a 65% payout, which is more than the 61% Virginia typically pays on $1 tickets. This could be just a one time thing, or perhaps a increase in payouts across all payouts in that state. Stay tuned.

I had a $2 scratch ticket that won a Free Ticket. The store clerk says it is not a winner, tears it, and doesn't give ticket back. I asked for the ticket back and was given another ticket (same game) which was a non-winner. After saying that this was not the ticket I handed the clerk and describing where the 3 winning symbols were located on the ticket, she finds the ticket and hands it back to me.
