800+ Michigan Lottery winners kicked off public assistance in 2013
Not saying what Amanda Clayton did was right but the media crucified her for receiving less than a thousand dollars in benefits after she collected her winnings. They went back in time and added up all her benefits to come up with the several thousand dollar of entitlements figure. The state and Federal government took over $300,000 in taxes from her lottery win and they made her out to be a monster which led to her using drugs and overdosing. RIP Amanda.

If we made a list of all the participants in a lottery, it might include: 1) Federal Government (Lottery winnings are taxable) 2) State Governments (Again lottery winnings are taxable) 3) State Governments (Direct share of lottery ticket sales) 4) Merchants that sell tickets (Paid by the lottery organizers) 5) Lottery companies (Hint: They are not doing all this ...

Supermarket chain accused of allowing lottery sales to minors
I don't agree with minors having access to purchase items like alcohol and gambling products. Having said that; it all falls back to parental supervision. People claims the government is overreaching yet still they want their state to lock up public machines so their wayward children don't access them. Question, how is it legal for an eight year old to go to a gun range in Arizona and shoot but cannot buy a scratch off? SMFH

$111 million EuroMillions jackpot won in Ireland
Our federal government is pretty close with a top tier rate of 39.6% but you may also have to factor in the states cut if you happen to live in a state that charges an income tax.

N.C. woman plays lottery for first time, wins $100K
The federal government takes 25% of the winnings, regardless of your skin color, and the state of North Carolina has no control over that.
