Conn. AG urges changes before allowing Keno
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal advised Connecticut legislators Monday to amend the state's memoranda of understanding with two federally recognized Indian tribes before attempting to legalize Keno in the state. He said the proposal to bring Keno to Connecticut, suggested last week by Gov. M. Jodi Rell as a way to raise about $60 million a year in new revenue, could risk the $400 million the casinos provide the state annually in slot machine revenues. Under that memoranda between the t ...

See previous story at www.lotterypost.com/news/191985. A proposal that would limit Tennessee lottery winners on state or federal assistance to $600 failed in the House State Government Subcommittee. The measure sponsored by Rep. Stacey Campfield, a Knoxville Republican, failed Wednesday for lack of a second. Campfield says people receiving assistance should not be spending money on lottery tickets, but rather on education or to put food in their children's mouths. The proposal would ...

Lottery supporters in Nevada try again
Advocates of a lottery in the nation's No. 1 gambling state have faced a long run of bad luck in getting Nevada legislators to back the idea but they're betting the time is right for one more attempt. Among the 200-odd bills and resolutions introduced by a Monday deadline was a measure to remove a prohibition against lotteries that's now part of the Nevada Constitution. Similar proposals have been rejected by the Legislature more than two dozen times since 1970, although in 1990 Nevadans d ...

Wyoming lottery backers try again
Legislators will have another chance to pass a state lottery bill in the weeks ahead. The new proposal is modeled after the 15-year-old Georgia lottery. The 2009 version is different in many respects from previous bills that failed to get through the Wyoming Legislature. For one thing, the proposal would direct $11 million or $12 million to the Hathaway Scholarship Permanent Trust. It also would set up a separate entity, a business corporation, to run the lottery and would not require any ...
