Lottery vending machines rolled out across Florida
Scratch-off Florida Lottery tickets are one of the quickest, easiest ways for gamblers to take a chance at riches and, for the most part, come up empty. But sometimes demand can create lottery bottlenecks at places such as your neighborhood Publix customer service counter. That's why state leaders are making the instant gratification of scratch-off tickets even more instant installing 1,000 ticket vending machines at lottery retailers across Florida, primarily supermarkets. ''It helps b ...

Live drawing fluke puts Maryland lottery machine maker in spotlight
When it comes to Florida Lottery games, the Ping-Pong balls get all the attention. They carry the numbers that determine if players of games such as Lotto, Fantasy 5 and Cash 3 are winners. Few people pay attention to the machines used to select the balls. At least, not until something goes wrong, as happened last week when a Lotto ball was selected... and then fell back into the machine's mixing chamber. In an instant, the machine, manufactured by Garron Lottery Products in Baltimore, ...

N.C. lottery expands vending machine use
North Carolina Education Lottery Commission officials are hoping a new deal that will allow players to purchase Powerball and other game tickets from vending machines will help extend the lottery's reach into more retail chain stores, like Walmart. The deal was made on Tuesday with GTECH Corp., which runs ticket printing and logistics for the state lottery. GTECH will provide the extra machines at no charge, in exchange for the state extending their contract with the company for four more yea ...

Ohio Lottery switches to Greek operator Intralot
Greek company takes over operation of games At 11:59 p.m. today, in an office park in Strongsville, state officials and a gaggle of computer technicians, some from Greece, will change how Ohioans get their lottery tickets. Success will be measured by how few people notice. What happens inside the 80,000-square-foot, unadorned brick building not far from the Lorain County line is being watched like Y2K, at least in the world of state lotteries. A lot of people are rooting for us, and ...

Fla. Lottery to try vending machines... again
Construction worker Anthony Carey usually gets $50 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets once a week at the convenience store where he gasses up, but he says that'll probably change when Florida reintroduces vending machines later this year in supermarkets. The first of 1,000 machines should begin showing up in mid-August and all should all be in place by the end of November. Instead of just getting them when I'm putting in gas, I would be able to buy them basically anywhere, Carey said wh ...

Lottery retailers busted in raid
Store owners, clerks accused of stealing winning tickets Lottery officials raided several mini marts Tuesday in Fresno, California. Owners and clerks were taken away in handcuffs after undercover investigators say the suspects cheated would-be customers by lying about winning tickets. Today, authorities caught up with them at the busi ...
