Once again, no lottery for Wyoming
The Wyoming House has defeated legislation that would have created a state lottery and allowed Wyoming to take part in the Powerball lottery.
The House voted 35-25 against the bill Monday.
Proponents said the lottery would have raised $11 million a year for the Hathaway Scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded to Wyoming students who attend the University of Wyoming or any of the state's community colleges.

The bill will go to the House floor for debate
A Wyoming House panel recommended Friday that the state House pass a bill creating a lottery.
The Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee voted 7-2 that House Bill 170 pass.
The lottery should generate $11 million a year for the Hathaway Scholarships, according to bill sponsor Rep. Sue Wallis, R-Recluse.
As the money builds up, Wallis hopes some of it could be used for early childhood and preschool programs.

A Wyoming state House of Representatives committee will decide Friday whether a bill to create a state lottery to benefit education and the horse industry will survive.

Wyoming lottery backers try again
Legislators will have another chance to pass a state lottery bill in the weeks ahead. The new proposal is modeled after the 15-year-old Georgia lottery.
The 2009 version is different in many respects from previous bills that failed to get through the Wyoming Legislature.
