N.Y. Lottery looks to increase prizes through investment strategies
This is the problem with NY State government. (sigh) They get side tracked with things like this, instead of the actual 'work' of the state, like a state budget. The state still has not passed a balanced budget this year and will RUN OUT OF MONEY in December and be going the way of California with IOU's soon.
As much as I would like to 'win' more money, lets get the real work done first!

What do you invest in the lottery? (if you don't mind saying)
Keeping track for a month now, break even. Some months short, some profit. I wouldn't call this an investment, because it is a really bad one in term of its odds payout. Just play for fun, with the budget one can afford. :)

Money for Lottery
I believe you will find a lottery will pre-fund prizes for new games and scratch-offs and sometimes guarantee a minimum jackpot for a faltering game as a form of advertising promotion. As funds can come from unclaimmed prizes they aren't exactly spending from their budget. BobP

Most times people play the ticket for 50/50 so if it hits in any order you win. If it hits exact order then you win $250, if it hits any you win $40 unless the exact order is a double number, then you win $330. As with any games of chance, you play with what you can afford to spend. I have a monthly budget, and if I run out before my budget is up then I don't play anymore for that month. I just give my suggestions and thoughts on what is coming out. I hope this helps.

A lot of these prizes seem like they'd be given free to the lottery just to get folks to come in and spend more. I wonder what their budget is for this program? I bet it doesn't cost them much at all.
