Lottery winners question Calif. Mega Millions prizes
Marjorie Givens thought she hit the jackpot last month when she realized her Mega Millions ticket was worth $250,000. She matched five numbers but missed the Mega Ball.
Her second-prize payout was half that of a California resident who played the same five numbers - 27, 36, 43, 49 and 54 - and also missed the Mega Ball on the same night in the same drawing. That person took home $503,851 before taxes.

'Education Hero' wins lottery twice
The first time Maurice Wiley appeared on the California Lottery's Big Spin, he won $1 million.
The second time Wiley appeared, he was given the Hero in Education award for doing good things with his windfall.

When Daniel Larsen of Pleasanton got a letter from a Canadian company called Saatchi Saatchi, he thought he had hit the jackpot literally.

Calif. lottery sales up 7 percent
Lottery sales are up 7 percent halfway through the fiscal year, the California Lottery reported over the weekend, representing an increase of $119 million.
Lottery sales totaled $1.75 billion in the first two quarters, up from $1.53 billion in the same period a year ago. The lottery is coming off a record year that recorded sales of $3.33 billion.
