Will millions spoil Bunky Bartlett?
By Kevin Cowherd Baltimore Sun Ladies and gentlemen, a big round of applause for our new Wicca-practicing Mega Millions lottery winner, Mr. Bunky Bartlett of Dundalk! Is this guy beautiful, or what? Most people who hit for a huge share of a $330 million lottery drop out of sight faster than a snitch on The Sopranos. They huddle with lawyers and accountants for days and hole up in some fancy hotel suite, all the while issuing the usual statements along the lines of: We ask that you ...

Maryland Mega winner believes in magic
Two months ago, when a tarot card told Ellwood Bunky Bartlett that he should slow down and focus on his spirituality, Bartlett let out an exasperated yelp. The only way that was going to happen, he thought at the time, was if he won the lottery. Yesterday, a day after he announced that he was one of four winners of a $330 million Mega Millions prize, Bartlett was back at the White Marsh New Age shop where the tarot cards foretold his future. Frustrated no longer, Bartlett says he now has th ...

Maryland Lottery helps taxpayers hit jackpot
The Maryland Lottery wants to help people dream. Will Maryland sell off its lottery?
With a huge cash crunch on the horizon and soaring demands for school construction, new roads and mass transit, some Maryland lawmakers are talking up the idea of selling one of the state's most valuable assets: the lottery. The idea has grown popular since the governor of Illinois proposed doing the same thing last year. The governors of Indiana and Texas have suggested similar moves, and discussions of the idea are taking place in Michigan and New Jersey. Maryland faces a gap of $1.3 bil ...

Countdown to Millions, Maryland's raffle-like lottery, didn't sell as many tickets as lottery officials had hoped, and the drawing was delayed one day to sell more. The Maryland Lottery held its drawing Monday night for Countdown to Millions new game featuring the Maryland Lottery's best odds ever at winning $1 million. The lottery sold about 325,000 tickets, short of the lottery's 420,000-ticket goal, said lottery spokeswoman Carol ...

Luck pays off for a whole lot of Maryland Lottery players
Lottery players sometimes prove a quirky and superstitious bunch, picking their numbers on sentimental value (a birthday, anniversary or just plain lucky number) and loyally playing the same game, using the same numbers, at the same store. But would one person play a favorite set of numbers in the same game 15 times in a single day? An oddity to be sure, lottery officials say but not unheard of. And that is their best guess about what happened in Saturday's Bonus Match 5 game which y ...
