It's been two long weeks since the small city of Zephyrhills learned that a $590 million Powerball ticket was sold at a supermarket here.
No one expected the winner to come forward in the first days after the announcement. After all, curious residents reasoned, the person might need a few days to absorb the shock, or to consult with financial advisers.

$50M Powerball jackpot to be split 3 ways
Three lucky winners will be able to spend the holiday weekend as newly-minted millionaires.
The owners of three winning Powerball tickets from Delaware, Florida, and Louisiana will divvy up Saturday's $50 million jackpot three ways.
Each winner will have the option of receiving a third of the jackpot in 30 payments over 29 years or a third of the $31.1 million lump sum. The winning Powerball tickets were purchased in New Orleans, Tampa, and a currently unnamed location in Delaware.

Mega Millions comes to Florida

Florida to join multi-state Mega Millions lottery
Florida will start selling tickets to the popular Mega Millions game later this year.
Florida Lottery officials told The Associated Press on Thursday that the state will join 42 other states in selling tickets. Tickets will go on sale on May 15.
The first Mega Millions drawing that Florida tickets will participate in is on Friday, May 17.
The state already sells tickets to Powerball, another multi-state game. It also has its own game called Florida Lotto.

Florida Powerball winner claims $50 million jackpot
Christopher McGurran overnight went from living a modest life to living large.
The 30-year-old and his wife claimed the $50 million Powerball jackpot drawn last month in St. Petersburg.
It's always somebody, someplace else, and you wonder if somebody won it. It's nice, said neighbor Bud Patten.

A Florida woman was convicted Monday of first-degree murder in the slaying of a lottery winner in central Florida.
Dorice Dee Dee Moore showed no emotion as the verdict was read. Judge Emmett Battles sentenced her to mandatory life without parole for the murder and an additional minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years for using a gun in the commission of a felony.
