Unemployed: Play the lottery or not?
by Dan Weiser
The Mega Millions lottery jackpot is worth an estimated $212 million. Right now, it is the largest lottery jackpot in the country, including the multi-state Powerball. In fact, it's the largest lottery jackpot in the world.
The next drawing is Tuesday night and a winning ticket will bring riches to at least one person. $212 million dollars is the stuff dreams are made of, but in these uncertain times winning would be ... well, hard to put into words.
The unemployment rate ...

Early talks for a joint Powerball-British lottery game
Will Powerball marry up with the British lottery or even Euro Millions, creating the largest lottery jackpots on the face of the earth?
Maybe. But Charles Strutt, director of the 32-member Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs Powerball from offices in Iowa, said it was still too early to tell.
According to Ed Van Petten, Kansas Lottery director and a former chairman of the multi-state Powerball group, talk of a world lottery game has been around since 2000.
They've been back at ...

Lotto fever isn't what it used to be

The chance to win a cool $250 million, though, didn't seem to draw the crazed stampede of wannabe Trumps that it has in the past. In 1984, a then-record $40 million jackpot in Illinois actually caused people to fly in from overseas to take a stab at it.
For some, huge jackpots such as the one offered by the Mega Millions lottery in ...

Lottery winner goes from rags to riches to rags
For David Lee Edwards, winning the lottery was a wild rocket ride
In the fall of 2006, David Lee Edwards and his wife, Shawna, decorated their front door for Halloween. But if trick-or-treaters made it to the couple's home, a storage unit in Riviera Beach, no plastic ghost was as scary as what they'd have found inside: two pale, withered junkies from Kentucky living amid dirty clothes, rotting food, and their own filth.
And these were lottery winners.
Today, with David on what could be ...
