David Edwards spent $12 million in his first year as a millionaire
A Powerball winner has died broke and all alone in hospice care, just 12 years after raking in $27 million cash from a lottery jackpot.
David Lee Edwards, a convicted felon from Ashland, Kentucky, bought a mansion in a gated community, dozens of expensive cars and even a LearJet with the share of a record $280 million jackpot he won in August 2001.

Despite publishing surveillance photos, Calif. Lottery fails to find winner
Despite months of trying to track him down, a mystery Lotto player in Los Angeles didn't claim his prize worth nearly half a million dollars by the deadline Monday evening.
But there's still a chance the lucky winner will pocket the $465,539 prize, according to a California Lottery spokesman.
He could have mailed in his signed ticket to the California Lottery and as long as it's postmarked by Monday, he'll get his prize. But Lotto spokesman Alex Traverso said he's never seen that happen.

If you expect part of a lottery winner's fortune because you've already shared a long personal and business relationship, always remember: Get it in writing.
That was the reluctant decision of a state judge Friday, who cited state law in refusing to freeze the assets of Pedro Quezada, the Clifton man who won the $338 million Powerball jackpot last spring, pending the outcome of a trial to determine if his former live-in girlfriend is entitled to a share of the winnings.
