Does anyone know how to calculate the Powerball sums? Is there anybody out there that has this list available?

Are the Powerball Sums any different than any other games' sum? do a search on Sums. Add the digits, leave out Bonus ball!!

Add the numbers together to get the sum:
02+09+25+33+51=120

That would be one GIGANTIC List considering their are 175 million possible combinations.

not really that would be from 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15  to  51 + 52 + 53 + 54 + 55 = 265, a total of 251 resulting summed values to deal with.

I don't understand what you are saying not really to, can you be more specific?

The lowest sum possible is 15 (1+2+3+4+5). The highest sum is 265 (51+52+53+54+55). Every sum in between is possible so there are a total of 251 sums possible for PB.  No matter what the specific combination is, the sum has to be one of those 251 numbers. The lowest and highest sums can only result from one combination each, while other sums can result from any of hundreds,  or thousands of specific combinations.

That means that the list of sums is fairly short. If you wanted a list of all the specific combinations with their sums it would be a very long list.  I suppose that if you think a sum of 63 is less likely than a sum of 141, you couldlook at that very long list to see which combinations could be used to reach a sum of 140, but there would be so many entries for that sum that it would be wildly impractical. There are four sums (15,16, 264 and 265) that can only be made with one combination each. That leaves 247 sums to account for the other  146,107,958 combinations, which means that there is an average of over 590,000 combinations for each of those possible sums.  Considering that  several other sums near the upper and lower ends can also be made from only a few combinations, a few of the sums towards the middle have over a million possible combinations.

Cool. Now how about a list of sums and the number of combinations that equal that sum for just the regular numbers? Out of curiosity, for those who think the sum matters, who includes the power ball or mega ball?

What would it take to add a Frequency Grand Total to the List?

The grand total of the frequencies is the number of possible combinations.  For PB it's 146,107,962 if you include the power ball, or  3,478,761 for just the regular numbers.

After looking at your question about the size of the list I had a brain cramp and focused on the number of combinations including the power ball (or mega ball, in the numbers I used), but  I'm assuming most people don't include the power or mega ball if they look at sums. Even with a maximum of "only"  39,000 combinations that add up to the most common sum without the power ball, a list of the combinations would be an extremely long and impractical list.

I know the person that started the thread was asking about PowerBall, but I know the approximate number of combinations for MegaMillions off the top of my head, so I gave a guesstimate. LOL!

Even without the PowerBall or the MegaBall the list is way too large to be practical.
