It doesn't really matter on my luck. I've had good luck on scratchers while scratching both at the store and at home.
Speaking of looking more carefully, I do tend to look more carefully at home, though. (and caught some missed # matches in the process....just like yesterday, where I caught a missed number match on a ticket I thought was a dud.....turned out to be a free ticket
