I've been coming on to LP for about a month now, just to read the posts and get the latest scoop in the news. Thought what the heck, why not just join the fun. I've been playing the lottery for awhile now, and unfortunately I haven't won much more than $7 about 3 or 4 times. I admit though, I don't play very often. My tight budget has me choosing which game and what time to play. I play Hit 5 when it reaches about 250,000, but become very discouraged when I see I can't even manage to hit 1. I play my states lotto when it is about 3 million, but never come up with anything. Maybe my dollar back lol. My #1 to play is MM. I figure if your gonna dream, dream big. I had origionally played only when it hit 100M, but found that I'm waiting forever to play. Thought I was on a roll till last night...THANKS MICHIGAN! hahaha Just kidding..congrats. So I have decided to play when it hits 50M so I can get more play time in. My question is, does or has anyone here felt very discouraged simply based on their location? Please correct me if I'm wrong (Washington folks). I've been playing around on the web for some time now and I think if I'm correct that Washington was added to MM in 2002 and since then they have won the JP 2 times. The last one was about 2 years ago to date. Now, I'm totally sure there are alot of $1,000 winners and maybe quite a few $10,000 winners. I have seen Washington score a few second tier prizes of $250,000 but not too often. I had usually seen them when MM got pretty big and more sales occured in Wa. I actually got bored enough one day to look into the # of winners both JP and 2nd place in MM and I think we're last on the poll.....darn it. I guess that even though the tides can change and anything can happen, I've still been feeling kinda discouraged. If your state hits, are you like cool we got it again. I wonder if its me? or Do you gasp in shock that its your state B4 you even think that maybe its you? lol Maybe we'll see some good luck soon I hope. Its bad enough I'm from a small town where NOTHING ever happens. So the thought of someone hitting it big here (rolling eyes) is CRAZY! Do you ever think your just in the wrong area? And.....whens the last time your state has hit the JP in the MM? Any uplifting stories to help my sprirts?

Welcome to LP. We don't have MM in Florida, but we do get some pretty large jackpots. Regarding "do you ever think you're just in the wrong area" .... I think it's not that someone is in the wrong area as much as not being in the right place at the right time which could be a matter of seconds. MM has odds of over 170 million to 1 if I'm not mistaken. So even if someone picks the right state, the right city, the right retailer and the right time of day, the person in front or back of you could buy 10 tickets (or only 1) and be the lucky winner. I'm not sure what there is to be discouraged about if you play once in a while. Many people here have been playing regularly for over 25 years.
You asked if anyone thinks "I wonder if it's me?" I'm not sure what you mean. Wouldn't you know immediately when the numbers are drawn?
Good luck. I hope you enjoy it here. Just have some fun!

Welcome Lotto*Love! I'm glad you decided to go from lurker to member -- it's so much more fun that way!!
One of the great things about joining in the discussion is learning about the infinite ways to play each game, whether it's MM, Pick 5, or Pick 3/4 (or anything else your state offers).
Don't get discouraged, just change up your strategy if it's no fun anymore. Maybe even try your hand at a different game for a while.
Try posting some predictions on the predictions board, because it only takes a few seconds to do, and you'll get some props on the winner's board if you hit. Almost as fun as the real thing!
Plus, over time between posting on the predictions board and learning about new strategies, perhaps you'll be on the road to changing up on your luck.
Good luck!!
-Todd

I see your point. I just meant Washington in general, not just me. If I were to see Wa. was the JP winner, I'd be happy. Shocked, and happy. I never look at my ticket(s) after I get them though. I think it may jinx me.lol And I usually don't check my numbers till I go to the store which can be a few days. I just happened to be on up late last night and decided to check and see. At about 11pm here they usually have not only the winning numbers but if there was a winner and where. I had horrible numbers last night with my QP so knew I had no chance lol.

-Todd Thanks a bunch! I'm interested in the strategy of reading dreams. Does it work? Well maybe not with mine lol. I think I need to cut out the caffeine before bed. My dreams make no sense at all and are about 30 seconds long. Last night I dreamt that Jamie-Lynn Spears had her baby and they said it was a boy they named Micheal. Then I woke up. Def NO more caffeine before bedtime.

At about 11pm here they usually have not only the winning numbers but if there was a winner and where. I had horrible numbers last night with my QP so knew I had no chance lol. As you go through the archives on LP you'll see some helpful suggestions. We all have our superstitions, and I understand your feeling about "jinxing" your numbers, but this is what I suggest (along with many other LP members.)
If you don't want to look at your numbers (assume that means you only buy quick picks) then place your ticket in a safe place. Remember, that tiny piece of paper might only cost a dollar, but it could be worth a lot more.
Lottery Post has all the results right after the drawings. If you don't want to check them right away or you go to bed early, then it's best to check them the next morning or at least when you get a chance to sit down at your computer again. Every year millions and millions of prizes go unclaimed.
Checking numbers at the store is okay, but make sure you scan your own tickets. Still, I'd check first before I go to a retailer. Imagine driving home knowing you have a $100 million ticket in your hand. Also, if you are one of the few lucky people who win a jackpot, you might want to keep the news private until you've caught your breath and made some plans. We're all different, but I'd be paranoid if everyone at the supermarket heard someone yell "That lady has a $10 million ticket!" I'd be looking in my rear view mirror all the way home!

Hello ther Lotto*Love
What a lot of people forget, or fail to admit, about any form of gambling is once you turn the money into casino chips, a horse race or sports bet ticket, or a lottery ticket consider it gone - anything that comes back is pure gravy.
There is not a bet that exists that the player is supposed to win. When you make the bet you are supposed to lose. In jackpot games that rule is on steroids many times over.
The only way to approach it is to keep it recreational and never bet "milk money".
Scared money never wins It's Lotto, not horseshoes or artillery!
Close doesn't count!
I sell everything at a loss but make up for it in volume

There are two kinds of jackpot winners...the ones who remained anonymous and the ones that wish they had.
