On another take, i am happy because Vermont, Rhode Island, i think Maine and some other states of new England got the weekly grand that pays 1,000 a week for 20 years...Smart thinking...Way to go... I hope Utah whenever it decides to have a lottery that it gets the weekly grand....even if it cost 2 dollars and that's what they should do to test the waters and be secured for 1 dollar per ticket can't be promised to anyone in a state that has not been tried out.... Scientists work on many crazy things: Tell them to work on something that will make elderly women gain weight.

I was in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympics and let's just say this. It did not seem like a state that would have a lottery. It was a very "conservative" town. I would think since this is such a Mormon population that they wouldn't allow any type of gambling. Nevada already has enough gambling. And seeing as the entire population of North Dakota falls in the 640,000 range, it's probably not worth it. Not sure on the other states, maybe someone else can shed some light.

Here in Alabama we are fighting the Governer over an electronic bingo hall attached to an entertainment venue ( http://www.countrycrossingalabama.com/ ). get this: it's CHARITABLE BINGO!!!!! This is to show you how backwards thinking our governor is. What's so funny is during his election his opponent, Don Siegleman, was all for a state lottery. That was one of the main reasons he lost. Well I guess most conservatives think bingo is better than a lottery so they are all up in arms over him opposing the addition of this venue. Let's just say in the 2010 governer's election south alabama will probbably overwhelmingly vote for a lottery supporter. As a side note we also have a tax on food and in the last few years made it legal for interracial couples to get married *cue dueling banjos*

If there is a state/country where interacial marriage is not allow may as well call it another germany under Hitler.... On another note, yes i am glad that vermont has weekly grand but i'll like Belgium & Holland & Swizerland to get the weekly grand also...I don't know why don't they call that game, paycheck because it is a paycheck... In a way i don't blame alabama and Utah for not having a lottery because forgive me for saying this but all the states are copycating other states the exact same way...Up to this day ALL STATES have the same pick3 and same pick4 except for Washington state that has a match4 game different than a regular pick4...It is time they change the permutation Pick3 and Pick4 to a different combination pick4 and pick3...And no other state has WEst Virginia Cash25, and i wonder why is that....They willing to copy pick3 and pick4 but don't want to copy WVA Cash25 and VA Cash25 is a magnet even if it cost 2 dollars.... But it will do them good if they pick the right games....For me the best advice to Utah since it is a very conservative state is to get the weekly grand for 2 dollars, a lotto, a West Virginia Cash25 for 2 dollars, a WA State Match4, a lotto but not powerball or megamillions since it is very conservative...and no scratchoff...Because honestly scratchoffs are what ruin the lottery and they really look like gambling...There are states that got like 50 different types of scratchoffs....To be sincere, unless a scratchoff was offering 100 million + dollars i don't find the purpose of them....The only scratchoff that i approve is the scratchoff that pays 1 million a year for life...The rest are just junk....Even thought the majority of state have lottery i don't approve of their scratchoffs....If you leave away scratchoffs the lottery revenue will increase because people will spend in the lottery instead of scratchoffs....To me scratchoffs are just like Casino, they don't serve no purpose.... Scientists work on many crazy things: Tell them to work on something that will make elderly women gain weight.

Small population, religion and conservatism are the three main reasons these states don't have a state lottery.Utah is comprised mostly of Mormans.Utah,Nevada,Wyoming & North Dakota have small populations that probably couldn't support a lottery. Arkansas,Mississippi,& Alabama are in the Bible belt.I'd be very surprised if any of these states, with the possible exception of Arkansas, get a state lottery anytime soon,if ever.

I doubt they will either. We still don't have alcohol sales on Sunday!! But people who want to play lotto do it and take their $$$ to either Florida, Georgia or Tennesse. but you know what? If you win the lottery you have to pay Alabama state taxes on your winnings as it is earned income. Isn't that some BS???

People here are so hypocritical. For example... The relgious southern baptists show their hate for the lottery; however, run to Tunica to play the slot machines twice a year... Gov Riley says gambling will not come to Alabama while he's in office... I'm sorry gov but gambling is here! You have 3 casinos in this state. Two in your "Back yard" there in Montgomery. That's not including all the dog tracks and bingo halls. Get with the times Gov Riley. If your citizens want to gamble they will do so. I have a 50 mile drive to a casino in Biloxi or a 45 mile drive to Florida. I'll happily take my money to other states. How are you going to win if you don't play?

North Dakota DOES have a lottery - not much of one, though. Utah is way too Mormon - besides, the "jack" Mormons (Mormons who drink, gamble, etc.) can always go to Idaho to get Powerbal tickets if they want to. Nevada has tried a bunch of times to geta lottery and the casino interests shoot it down every time. Alabama will get one eventually. Mississipi too probably.

Mississippi will have a tough time getting a lottery for the same reason Nevada would have a tough time getting one... Casinos. Mississippi citizens that support gambling go to or work for Casinos... The rest are conservative and feel like gambling is the root of all evil... I doubt it will happen anytime soon. How are you going to win if you don't play?

I don't want to sound disrespectful but the OP doesn't seem to know much about Mormons and doesn't seem to know that Utah is a Mormon state. Mormons ABHOR any form of gambling. Even if Utah has tens of millions of populations it won't allow lottery because of the religious conservatism.

North Dakota has 2by2, Wild Card 2, Hot Lotto and Powerball. Too bad no Pick 3,4 or 5 or a regular lotto.

You're right,Drive. North Dakota has 2by2, Wild Card 2, Hot Lotto and Powerball. Too bad no Pick 3,4 or 5 or a regular lotto. It's almost the same here. We have Wild Card 2, Hot Lotto, Powerball and Pick 3 instead of 2by2. We don't have a Pick 4, Pick 5 or own Pick 5/6 state game. It sucks. I have written to them asking if they could include more state games of our own, but they seem happy with what they offer.
