What gives with so many people winning a relatively small Mega Million jackpot? Now in Texas which is where I'm from, 7 people won the second tier. All but one of the 7 chose their numbers, and of the 7, two had the multiplier and won a cool million. I'm thinking maybe a fortune cookie made the rounds.

There were 2 jackpot winners for the 38 million dollar jackpot.

1 from California,

1 from Virginia.

Also, 34 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $250,000 prize.

3 from California,

3 from Georgia,

1 from Illinois,

1 from Maryland,

1 from Massachusetts,

1 from Michigan,

3 from New Jersey,

7 from New York,

4 from Ohio,

7 from Texas,

2 from Virginia,

1 from Washington.

I agree. I think a lot of players like playing numbers with some type of sequence to them. Like 01-02-03-04-05 and 04-08-12-16-20 and so on. There were a quite a few winners in a pick 5 game recently that had a set of numbers where there was a group of 7 between each number.

I caught my breath when I saw those numbers because I play those numbers. I typically play the most frequently drawn numbers but by position, and the numbers drawn fit the category of most frequently drawn (over the history of the game). I concluded that there are a lot of people who do the same thing which is why there were so many 5+0 winners with a small jackpot.

How much did you win?

Just curious do you play the multiplier? For the most part I do, however if it is a large jackpot I don't. My thinking is to have more numbers, hoping one of them will win the big one.

Be happy it happened.  Kind of eats up the likelyhood of it happening again real soon.   About one time in a 100 draws we get the kind of draw the "experts" tell us not to play because so many people play it, and once again it proves to be true.

Yep The Swine flew so it must be your time.  I am in Texas and like playing the cash 5 game.  I win more with it than the Mega.

If the jackpot is low I'll play the megaplier. I figure trying to win 250K is like hitting the Tx 2 Step except 2 Step odds are roughly half of MM odds for 5+0.
