That is right Casinos arre coming to Ohio, they will be at Northfield Horse Racing Track, and Thistledown Horse  Racing Track. I am not much of a Casino person though, I did win $400.00 a few months ago. What I do is go to a a Slot machine that is hot. I might even play a machine right where the person hit or next to it! How much have you won playing the slots?  That is the most I ever won.

You right, it does sucks your money up fast, but I really don't care much for them. I might go every blue moon, when I feel lucky I like Horse-racing I have a better chace and that is where my Luck is.

Northfield Park has been waiting for over 20 years; ever since Mountaineer Park got slots. And when PA got the slots a couple of years it ago, it took away even more business from them. It was common sense to add slots to all the Ohio race tracks just so they could compete, but every time there was a casino initiative on the ballot, they basically left the race tracks out.

Do they have daily Keno game at the race tracks?

Yes the do, Play all the time when I go to the Track. well, sometimes I play. they have them at both tracks. and When do you think they will open. they are going to put the Casinos in 3 or 4 States in Ohio. I think that is good. It will give people jobs anyway.  Do we have to wait untill Nov? for them top vote again?

There are 2 race tracks in Cleveland and Columbus, and one in Toledo and Cincinnati so for now it looks like the slot machines will only be at the race tracks and they will not be full service casinos with table games. I don't see how River Downs could benefit at all because of the casinos in Indiana and Raceway Park is only an hours drive from the Detroit casinos. Thistledown and Northfield Park should get a small boost in revenues from that area but the people in Youngstown and those south of Akron might still go to the full service casino at Mountaineer Park in WVA where they can still bet offtrack on the Cleveland area tracks. PA has slot machines and offtrack betting that is closer for some of the people in the Cleveland area too. Since Columbus is in the middle of the state, Scioto and Beulah Park could do pretty well but they will have to compete with full service casino with offtrack betting at Wheeling Downs.

I don't know the language the Governor used to enable adding slot machines to the racetracks only so I don't know if they will need a vote to keep them or if someone will start an initiative to ban them on the November ballot. Either way Ohio waited way to long for slot machines at the racetracks and I doubt the voters would pass full service casinos.

Thanks for commenting Stack47  I think they will pass. anytime the Gov Ok's it that is a plus, we are really getting close. i think it will pass. I hope so anyway, I usually go to Wheelings or Pa. I didn't know that Beulah was in  Col. I always thought it was in New york. I think I am going to live Racing at Thistledown today! it suppose to rain. I was suprised  that that were going to put the Casinos at Thistledown, they weere about to close. They were even trying to sale it, and where will they get the 65 million to cover building the Casino. That is what I am worried about?

My understanding is slot machines will be put into the existing facilities to boost revenues in a business that was affected by gaming competition from other states and the Ohio economy. It's similar to putting Keno into bars, bowling alleys, and restaurants that were affected by the smoking ban. If the race tracks go under, people would lose jobs and the state would tax revenues. I suppose the owners could spend $65 million for a new facility to house the slot machines but it would take years offset the cost.

Don't forget the state is getting a share of the profits too. Right now the state is getting nothing from out of state casinos with parking lots full of Ohio license plates. I doubt the owners will spend that much money before they know how much profit they can make.

Years ago when WVA added slot machines to their race tracks, the profits were shared by WVA lottery, the horsemen's association, and the race track owners. Over time the track owners used their profits to expand their facilities but it still took over 20 years before they were ready for full service casinos and before the WVA lottery could show and convince the voters how the state was benefiting.

When it comes to gambling, Ohio always has been very conservative so they will have to prove to the voters that the state will make large profits and where the profits will go from gambling before they will vote "yes" on full service casinos. And a few slot machines at race tracks that still must compete with neighboring states that already have casinos won't be much of profit to begin with. It will take years if ever before Ohio has casinos because they waited to long to get into the game.

We will be going to the Casino, soon, We are going to stay in Hotel one weekend and celibrate our 14 yrs, Anniversary. I hope one of us have so luck.  The one close to Erie Pa.
