Tell your boyfriend I hope he gets better soon and to STAY off that knee until he is SURE he can handle it.  My husband had torn something up in his kneecap and kept using it and almost messed himself up.  I made him go to the doctor and they scheduled him for surgery immediatley.  Men need to learn that we all can have accidents but we need to make sure we are Well or we will cause many more problems than necessary.
