I heard today from a reliable source that starting soon-- perhaps in 2012-- the second prize for MegaMillions (having just 5 balls and not the Mega number) will result in a prize of $1,000,000 BUT that the price for a MegaMillions ticket will jump to TWO dollars.

I'm not sure if the Megaplier option will be retained.

I for one do not support this change because I'd rather spend that second dollar an a regular Cash 5 game whose number field is not enormous like MM's is.  The other reason I do not support it is that MM already makes enough money to make the second tier prize $750,000 without raising the ticket price by 100% to TWO dollars!

Any thoughts?

MM ain't gonna want to be making half of what PB makes.

    It's not if, it's when.

Maybe some other outfit will start a new nationwide dollar game for Mondays and Thursdays.

Dream and buy one ticket. The JP games are tough to beat. Instead of worrying how you'll deal with your win, maybe the best thing to do is to win first, then worry about it.

      (Disclaimer) Just my opinion.

You know, pumpi hasn't posted for a few days......wonder if he's became a consultant to the MUSL.

If we see some changes that include part of jackpots having to go to socialist causes or underprivileged Latvian pole dancers....

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Even at $2 per ticket it is still $1 per ticket. They had to increase an extra dollar due to the devalue of the dollar. ;)

Haha...yeah.  In California, thanks to pari-mutuel, 2nd prize would either be 3x that much or MORE LIKELY a fraction of that.

I don't know, maybe when/if the $2 increase is officially announced, it might be time for us to drop out of MM.  Yes, huge jackpots (when they happen) are sexy and I'd miss 'em, but our SLP is not a bad game.

Right now, it's at $50M.  It has taken 28 rolls to get that high.  Before we joined MM in June 2005, 10 rolls got us to $72M (April 2005).

If we quit MM, I don't know if SLP would ever get back to those kinds of quick building jackpots, but they would probably build faster than they do now.

                Already regretting delurking...

It was one of pumpi's posts about lotteries solving the world's problems.

A lot of $1 players will become $2 players, some will just drop off. If you watch the drawings when the 5 + 0 and 4 + 1 prizes are announced they are usually for the amount without the Megaplier.

This all holds true for Powerball, too.
