Would you buy a $100 scratch ticket? With winnings of at least double that from another game, maybe, but never right out of the pocket. It's Lotto, not horseshoes or artillery! Close doesn't count! Yes Ill buy them but they wont ever have $100 scrathers with GOOD (1 in 2) odds because clerks would buy them and there would be many poachers by the machine who jump on the next ticket if they see 2 losers in a row Excellent point James1! We don't need herds of poachers hanging out at every convenience store. Goodbye $100 scratch ticket, you will never see the light of day. If I had enough money to throw $100 away on a lottery ticket, I would have enough money that I wouldn't need the dream of playing the lottery.

This question was raised several years ago and my opinion hasn't changed. A $100 scratcher would have to be a "special" ticket in the sense that it couldn't take on characteristics of the normal $5,$10, or $20 denomination. Some states have tried tickets in the past where the overall odds are 1:1. WHAT? 1:1!!! Yes, 1:1; however, you aren't going to like what I say next. The prizes would start at (likely) $20 or $30 and go up from there. So, in other words, you wouldn't drop $100 and leave empty handed. Usually odds for at least breakeven prizes would be around 1:3ish. The 1:1 overall odds of winning a prize would stop the poachers James alluded to in his previous post. How are you going to win if you don't play?

If a state came out with this pricey gem, would you consider parting with a "C" note? Obviously for that amount the odd's should be at least 1:2 of getting any prize. Let's say the jackpot was for $50 million, with second & third prizes of $500,000 & $250,000 and many more smaller cash prizes. I believe the current highest price for a scratcher is $50 (I heard this while watching "How the lottery changed my life" last Sunday). I didn't catch what state(s). Any takers? only if the odds is 1:1 "You have to be in it to win it!"

Ohio is at least considering a $50 scratch off. They presented the idea to a focus group I participated in a few months ago.

Not sure, I would wait and monitor the sales or the wins on the website and see how theyre doing. Not a good idea to buy a stale product, as you could buy 20 tickets and never win a dime because the winning packs are sitting stale in a lower income area where no one is buying. With prize amounts like that, you would probablly have more than average amount of tickets in circulation. I would consider the amount of tickets in circulation, and the number of prizes. Here In TX, we have two $50 tickets. Both games, the top prize is 7.5 MILLION. There are only 3 of them per game. About 3 MILLION in circulation each. The next level down is $10,000. I believe there are around 110 per game. Quite a jump in amounts ( not complaining).

I've tried a few $20 ones and some $10. I haven't won a thing. So no, I wouldn't waste my money on a $100 one. "Don't be a schmuck, always take the cash." -Coin Toss
