You are correct, that would be the "Live Freeze Then Die" state of NH that pulls it off. Now that the tickets are $2 per play and the lower tiers prizes didn't double, reaching a $500M jackpot should be as easy as reaching a $250M jackpot was before and as before the states selling the most tickets will probably win the most. * that which happens most * * is most likely to happen again *

When California joined Mega Millions the newspapers ran headlines of 'Possible $500 Million Dollar Jackpots.' I think that was 2005 or so. Hasn't even been close ever since. Going by that, with PB starting at $40M instead of MM $12M, that's not really that big of a gap. As the jackpots get bigger play increases, so we shall see. It's Lotto, not horseshoes or artillery! Close doesn't count! With number of top MM winnners California has had lately, if they were paying out fixed amounts same as other MM states, they might have gone broke and quit the game by now. * that which happens most * * is most likely to happen again *

That would be true if they still kept selling the same number of tickets. But that's not happening, as I understand it.

if half the number of tickets are being bought to drive up jackpot the same amount. then say a $40 mill climb in jackpot needs sales of 80 M ticlets @0.50c per to jackpot currently. in old would have had to sell 160 mill tickets, @0.25c per ticket towards jackpot. so same jackpot increase but only 80 mill tickets bought as opposed to 160 mill, theres a good chance of another jackpot, as opposed to old syster where 160 mill tickets could have been bought. im not saying those are the numbers just using as example of how even tho the jackpot goes up the same it may welll be a lot longer for winners to show up. i magine the real stats are something similar to my example, just not as simplistic. mon/ lotto [27] 38 tue/oz lotto [] wed/ lotto [ ] thu / power ball[1.65] sat/ lotto [] sat /pools [18.30] keno [112] 66 scratchers [ ]
jan loss [171.90], profit 49.25 ; feb loss [ 125.90 ], profit 168.25 ; march loss [151.25] profit 4 ;april loss [250.90] profit 64

I am thinking that we are about 4 rolls away from $500 million so we are close. Just have to lose until then and half a billion will be a new record.-weshar75

Statistically speaking with runs that have gone on for 8+ rolls, it is a very great likelyhood that you will get to see 500+ million.

Every last dime would go for 500,000,000 quick pick's. I might have to rent a tractor trailer to haul away that many tickets.
