I was walking and saw my friend Steven sitting on a rock with his girlfriend. I said "hi whatcha doing?" , he said "nothing just played the lotto", I said "good luck" ... well, ... he won 10 million in NY Lotto that night (it was early 1980's shared prize with another person. 20 million jackpot). Do ya think that was a powerful good luck wish? Dang I'm good. Lmao!

congrats MM, saw your name in the August on line list.....bet you were glad to have that before that 2009 10% NH lottery tax went into effect BIGTIME!!! When I called the NH lottery commission to find out what 5 white balls were worth, I was flabbergasted! Didn't have a clue as to how much this was worth at the time. I was thinking maybe $10K? You are absolutely correct, because of the worst economic downturn in US history, the NH legislature temporarily voted to put in place a 10% "gambling tax" fee for all future lottery winnings in NH. Fortunately I missed that time window, which could have cost me an additional $20,000 in state tax. Subsequently about a year ago, they did away with this greedy tax, when they realized how much revenue they were losing to border states that were not playing NH games anymore because of this ridiculous change in state tax rulings.

NH has a 10% lottery tax ? i thought they were the tax-phobic state. still better then jersey at 10.8% greedy pukes. That was "killed" about a year ago. This was probably a once in a lifetime tax assessment for NH, because of the unprecedented economic downturn in the last 4 years, which had severely affected the nation as well as the states economic performance. NH still is a "Tax-Phobic State".

So what'd you do with all the money? Invest? Buy a new car or two? I'm hoping to win a six-figure amount someday, either in Pick 5 or a 5+0 hit in Mega Millions

So your saying there is now a 10.8% retroactive lottery tax in Jersey? Sucks Big Time!!! can't recall the details just now, one big JP was won around jan. 2009. following june legislature passed a 10.8 % tax, and the worst part,it was retroactive to jan.1st 2009. akin to changeing the rules in the middle of the game. not suprised you did't know it,sneaky S. O. B. s passed the bill in the middle of the night, Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crowds -- Charles Mackay LL.D.
