This is a kind of spinoff on PeteLawson's Claiming Anonymously thread. What does it say on the back of your tickets in regard to claiming and press conferences and release of information? One reply per state would do it, and would love to hear from those in the states that allow remaining anonymous. Illinois: This is part of the staement on the back of Illinois Lottery tickets: Important Information Players must be at least 18 years of age. This Lottery ticket is a bearer instrument, please sign immediately.......... ......The holder of this ticket agrees to particiapte in interviews with Lottery public relations personnel and news media and grants permission to use his/her name and likeness in Lottery advertising. All Lottery tickets, transactions and winners are subject to applicable Illinois laws, Illinois lottery rules, and directives of the Lottery Superintendent. When all states allow winners to remain anonymous some clod will want a press conference.

From GA a non anonymous state: All ticket, transactions, drawings, winners and prizes are subject to Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) rules and regulations and applicable law. Ticket purchasers must be at least 18 years old. Please sign-the ticket is a bearer instrument until signed. All prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the winning draw date. The date of claim is the date of receipt by the GLC. The rest tells you where to claim.

The California Lotto tickets say nothing about media coverage or whether a ticket can be claimed anonymously. However I did read the Lottery regulations from their website and it says: CLAIMING A PRIZE OR AWARD 1. General Regulations (Draw and Scratchers®) a. Individuals under 18 years of age and those named in Government Code section 8880.321(g) are ineligible to receive a prize. If an ineligible individual makes a claim for a prize either individually or as part of a group of claimants, that portion of the prize attributable to the ineligible claimant shall remain in the prize fund. b. All prize payments or promotional awards are subject to deductions and offsets, including taxes, as provided by law. c. Prize winnings shall be paid to a natural person. Natural person includes, when applicable, multiple persons as denoted on the multiple ownership claim form. (1) Under unique conditions, the Director may allow prize winnings to be paid to someone other than a natural person.* These other entities are: (a) A non-profit 501-C corporation; or (b) A revocable trust where the grantor is the winner and the trust is linked to the grantor’s social security number. *italics added I am guessing if a winner can persuade the lottery commision that he or she have legitimate concerns for their safety (or family's safety) then they are allowed to collect using a trust or LLC. Considering the stories from previous winners of threats and actual violence caused by the publiciity surrounding their win, I can see a case for anonymity being made fairly convincingly. I can imagine if a winner requested anonymity and was denied and later was harmed as a result of the publicity, the Lottery Commision could be held liable. At the very least, it would be bad publicity for them.

180 days?? Thats pretty shady.... It's the same here in California. Also, for all of you California lottery players, this a link to a thread that talks a little more about claiming with a trust or LLC. I had sent an email to the California State Lottery asking about claiming anonymously and then posted the response. www.lotterypost.com/thread/230928/2042194
