Either Digits or Groups are good filters to eliminate with. I prefer digits over groups.
One strategy that I have found for the state pick 5 games is look for two draws where the delta between the two draws by position is small and they occurred close together.
For Floriday Fantasy 5 I found these two draws:
05/14/2013 02-04-10-12-29
05/17/2013 01-05-09-16-29 -1 +1 -1 +4 +0 (overall by position delta of +3)
It seems like these type of draws want to hit in triplets. So I highlight the two draws and range the values for filters. I find the filters ID thru MD to be the most reliable. So using these filters as examples I would have
ID 5/5, TB 3/5, DB 0/1, DO 0/0, DE 0/2, MD 3/5 those would get me down to 14,776 combinations
Now use either digits or some groups to reduce further.
Using digits I would have
D1 2/2, D2 2/3, D3 0/0 D4 0/1 D5 0/1 D6 0/1 D7 0/0 that will get you down to 915 combinations.
On 05/24/2013 01-02-10-25-28 would match this DMP setup completing the triplet. 4 of the 5 numbers are very similar to the previous two draws. This is why I like digits versus groups because usually 1 number will be outside of the group range.
Anyway that is one strategy or you can just use the bias tools of DMP.
I have seen similar patterns like this in the California Fantasy 5.
