Do some number combinations have better odds?

I think the original question was...

"How many people on LP can piss on a good idea?"

I think the answer is 12 LP members, but it might be more. 

NO the question did NOT get lost in the chaos of the thread.

Stack did an EXCELLENT job of articulating the answer in the SAME POST your WhinnnnIng about.

Because we know some groups of numbers HAD better odds in the past we can conclude there are groups that will have better odds in the future.

I need a new set of numbers for tonight's drawing so I used my handy "Quicker Picker" that I found laying around the house. I hope this turns out to be an award winning system that is world renowned and receives global acclamation and praise.

I cut Mega into 3  groups     19+19+18  =  56

From group A:      3-  13-  23-  33-  43-  53

From group B:     1-  11-  21-  31-  41-  51

From group C:    8-  18-  28-  38-  48

            that's 17 numbers so far

Stack said that 14 wasn't quite enough    and I got a funny feeling  28  is too many

 I'm trying to get it to 18 numbers or something close to that range

so  these next one's are from    a sort of  winner group

                                        and       sort of a loser group

  6- 16- 26- 36- 46- 56   winner group

that's 28   but  let's wait till draw  and see if we can eliminate a group

You pretty much proved some combos do have better odds when you showed that only twice in the history of PB all 59 numbers were drawn in 30 drawings. Any group that excluded the numbers not drawn would have better odds. While it's impossible that any one group of 28 MM numbers can match all five numbers in 100% of the drawings, there should be many 28 number groups that average once out of 25 drawings which is way better than the probable once out of 39.

When I used the 14 number wheel playing RC5, I reduced the odds of winning the jackpot to 100 to 1 if five of the 14 numbers were drawn. The probability of matching 5 numbers is once in 288 drawings so if could have continued getting enough four number matches to cover the cost of play, I would eventually have a realistic 100 to 1 chance of winning the jackpot.

To get the same 1 in 39 chance Ronnie's group of 28 numbers has, I would need 20 numbers, but matching four numbers every drawing wouldn't cover the cost of play.

You are on the right track Stack, I have said all along that the objective is to improve our odds even if only by a little bit. Using 20 numbers is a good idea also because it is the middle ground between Maddogs Mega Millions Challenge 7/24 and my "one in 39"

If you hit 5 of 5 and the bonus ball enough times it may cover it. I think its worth a try even if only on paper. A little good timing and intuitiveness go a long way.

I can't really say I've proved anything but I'm also looking at MM which has had all 56 of its numbers drawn in 26 drawings twice since it went to a 5/56 matrix.  The range varies  from 26 to 91 drawings.

Nobody has to prove there will be always a group of numbers that are drawn more than others because in the past it has always happened. You won't find any 12 drawing period in either game where all the numbers were drawn at least once. Even when all the numbers were drawn in 26 drawings, some of the numbers were drawn 4 or more times while others were only drawn once.
