Seeking book that explains lottery for laymen

Hello

My dad  likes to play the scrtchoff,  lotto and megamillions and always asks me how the lottery works (how do the computers generate the random numbers and assign winners, etc.)

Can anyone suggest  book or site that explains it all in laymans terms?

THRIFTY is ALWAYS right, even when he is not trying to be. I saved up almost a $10,000 nest egg by NOT playing my usual $150. per month for about 5 years. The problem was I spent it all in one day using THRIFTYS Shotgun method approach!

You could try your local library. I read a real cool book there once that told me everything there is to know about RNG in the casino slot machines. It was very insightful and informative. Try that.

lurky - creepily excellent name by the by - welcome to Lottery Post!  and good luck finding exactly the right book.  starting here is an excellent kicking off point!

Spending that kind of money in one day on lottery tickets can be quite a hassle even if you're only buying quick picks.  If you're wheeling or making personal picks based on some other parameters then you have to make out play slips which require some advance planning.

Before I retired I participated in such a scheme to play 500 lines with a co-worker who convinced eight other to contribute $50 if we would come up with the 500 lines and make out the play slips.  Working two evenings after work we came up with 500 lines, made out 100 play slips and played them and I promised myself I would never actively participate in such a scheme again, it required too much work.  Nothing went as the computer simulations we ran at least ten times before trying it for real.

I still run computer simulations and now believe playing 25 lines give players almost as good of odds of winning as they can expect from any amount of lines short of playing every possible combination.

I really did quit playing, and save up all that $$$ money. The part about spending it was a joke. lol. lol. My plan was to buy 500 - $20. scratcher tickets (would have fit under my arm) but after 5 years of saving money I could not (yet) bring myself to do it. lol. lol. 

Sometimes the retailers that sell lottery tickets have information on the games...no books to buy. Yep, library is free, too.

How is one to tell which parts of your posts are jokes?  Maybe you could highlite the jokes in red. 

The Shotgun playing method is very hard to follow because it is not easy to let go of the cash after you have saved it. I played $20 in one shot on powerball after I saved $5 for 4 weeks, and it was not easy. The shotgun playing method is good if you hate to play the lottery like a lab rat everyday or weekly.
