If you look at the winners stories, only 12 to 15 people win on average a year for say Powerball. The numbers are probably about the same for MM. So about 20 to 30 people win a year from the two major lotteries. That is why I play one dollar, when pot is large maybe two. It is just so that I can have fun dreaming of what I would do if that dream came true. In the meantime I work towards acheiving that dream everyday through work. Each day my dream is coming closer to reality, of course the jackpot could fix that immediately! But statisticly speaking, I know that it probably will not be me that gets that special boost towards the dream! But HEY, I can still dream... right?

That's probably why many of the lottery winners are older and retired. They've reached a point beyond where working to accomplish a dream is a reality and if they have some savings for the dreams that never happened they probably can afford an extra ticket or two without effecting their life style. * The fundamentals of winning a lottery jackpot * * play a lottery you can win *

As long as you are playing within your means, you need to look at this as pure entertainment only. Any wins are just an added bonus. If you are getting that depressed however, you might consider cutting back to just one game once a month. As you said yourself, the people who rarely play are sometimes the ones to score that big jackpot. Cold turkey could work for some, others could be even more depressed, in knowing that now they will never win anything. Good luck going forward shyguitar! Hi Mcginnin, I hear what you are saying about playing within your means. I always make sure my bills etc. come first. I do not smoke and do not drink my only vice is playing the lottery. Since I have always had low paying jobs and have worked since my teens, it's been my dream to be able to win a lottery. I've always been more of a conservative person (with the exception of politics where I'm a liberal). I prefer to pay for everything in cash (unless I have unforseen things like car repairs etc which I would not use cash for). I've always driven a used car (though I believe that a car depreciates in value as soon as one would drive it off the lot). Guess what I mean is that I do try to be responsible and realize that certain things in life are luxuries that I can't afford so therefore only do window shopping. Winning the lottery would allow me to do things like travel and help those in my family along with being able to be charitable to organizations that are in need. Since I will have to work until I die it would be the only way for me to escape from low paying work that I've always done. I do have a degree but have never worked in my field that I went to college for. What really sent me over the edge almost 3 years ago was that I was hoping for a win in order to be able to pay for my child's college education as that was nearing coming up. Well that never happened obviously.

Many days I buy lottery tickets and either win a free ticket, or up to $10 or more, other days I don't win anything at all, and then I really get discouraged; as I would really like to win a jackpot or second prize, which would be big also; On the days that I do get discouraged, I stop buying tickets for a couple of days, till I start to feel better, and i think of all the bad jobs out there that I have had, and that motivates me to buy another ticket..

Just had a guy kinda close hit a mill (PB) using the same numbers for 20yrs. Another guy up north hit a mill (MM) using 10yr old numbers. I'm sure they gave up long ago, but they kept trying. and make your last check bounce.

Hi everyone, I've been starting to realize that maybe I've not been realistic with myself when it comes to the lottery. Even though I know the chances of winning a jackpot are astronomical I still have the hope that I will win enough money in the lottery to change my life. For years I only played the lottery when the drawing games were over 100 million but things started to change almost 3 years ago when I just started playing the lottery more consistently hoping for that big win. Well like the majority of people who play the lottery regulary there is no big win on my end. I read stories about some people playing for 30 years before they win the jackpot and other's who rarely play and win a big jackpot. I'm just started to have to accept that maybe I've been living in a dreamworld about all of this. Everytime I scratch a ticket and win nothing and each time I check my PB, MM, Mass Cash or Lucky for Life Ticket and get nothing I get extremely depressed. Why was I able to go for so many years feeling that playing the lottery was only a losing proposition and a voluntary tax so I rarelyplayed to being the way I am now with this desperate need to win. Sorry for my rambling I'm just feeling bummed out today. Have been playing less but can't seem to give up cold turkey on the lottery. Some people on this site seem like they are upbeat people and wish I could be that way. That sucks!! Here you are tring to win so bad and then we have news stories of states with MILLIONS in unclaimed lottery prizes!! Just doesn't make sense!! I'd take advice of some members and give it a rest and try to have fun with it when you do play and not take it so serious.

Well that never happened obviously. I really, really dig your post and admire both your personality and outlook. So many people fall into the various caegories you've described here...I know I do. A lottery isn't impossible to win, first of all, okay. It's just that with so many numbers involved, it's real hard to get all of 'em on the same line which is why the payout is MILLIONS!! In a past post, I mentioned a "scattered-type" of payout but, that would make it overly easy to match the numbers. Anyhow, I would suggest that you maintain a positive attitude with it and don't set your expectations too high. Lottery burn-out happens every day with players thinking that it's their day, and, they just have to win...it's my time. This kind of stress and strain only taxes you and compounds depression if/when someone else does win. From most of the stories I've read and interviews I've watched, all lottery winners were very passive when they played and found out they won. It's almost as if they were in "auto pilot" and simply making sure they got their numbers in as usual...even forgetting about having played. To me, this simply allows all that previously stored-up energy to be released in a very relaxed manner (no force) and that person wins. My assumption could be very off base but, I feel I'm on point based on real stories. Great things happen both when we expect, and, LEAST expect them to. There's a balance in everything under the sun...neither is there anything new under it. Life is merely a cycling of things which have already happened before, but with different people at different times. Will all this in mind, I'll answer your original question as such: Whether you end up winning, or, if you never win you won't be alone either way. The difference in the two is the amount of people on either side. The two things both groups have in common, even right now, is that neither can tell the other how to win. Good luck, and I hope you do find yourself wondering how you finally won very soon. L.L. I'm new on this post. I feel for you. I also keep hoping for one win "to change my life around." Hasn't happened yet either. Not even small wins, hardly. I know I have given up on Quick Picks or Easy Picks to choose my numbers. Now I study the previous results and try to guess what's going to come up. That's almost impossible though because, for one thing, most lotteries are doing "pretests" before each lottery. They don't have to disclose which numbers are picked so that I guess that makes any chance of winning about 1 in zillion. Good luck to you! Maybe good luck has something to do with maintaining a positive attitude. Who knows?

I'm on "auto-pilot" myself, and reacted just the way you described these types of players, passive and almost non-emotional when I won a second prize for PB. Your in the groove dude, keep up your positive and informative posts.

"Anyhow, I would suggest that you maintain a positive attitude with it and don't set your expectations too high. " I think that really sums it up. Play within your means, stay positive and dont put all of your eggs (hopes and dreams) into the lottery basket. Once you change that mindset, hopefully it will become less of a letdown when you dont win. Best of luck!

Hi Shyguitar: I believe we all get a little depressed when we lose. Sometimes it seems the harder we try for success only guarantees our failure. I think most people are just like you. We are told from childhood to try harder at school. Try harder at athletics. Try harder at love, your marriage, your career. Try harder to hit the lottery. I am one who believes that trying harder does not work in life or the lottery. When I retired I wrote a book titled The Ninth Siddhi. It is my second book on using meditation techniques to win the lottery. The gist of the book is to set an energized intention to win the lottery and manifest the numbers close to the Source of Thought. We chart our daily plays and use a 10 day moving average to make sure that we are improving. That is, hitting more numbers more often than chance would have it. If you know you are improving at a super normal skill, it takes a lot of the anxiety out of losing day after day. Everyone starts out learning the technique on three and then four number games. Once these games are won, we work in groups to win the Mega lotteries. Furthermore, the meditation technique will reduce your anxiety and reduce your blood pressure. You will experience increased sexual energy, feel rejuvenated, and attract more wealth, abundance and prosperity to your life. In addition, you will encourage a less violent community. It worked for me. Maybe it will work for you? Any sufficiently advanced technology
is indistinguishable from magic. A. C. Clarke
